another photo captures it all

Here is another photo I found that describes how things are here in our household:

mother's day

We all know what happened last year on Mother's Day, the twins were born. It was not expected and very eventful, just like all my pregnancies. Read more here, here, and here.:) And Mother's Day this year wasn't quite as eventful as last, but we did have a little excitement.

Lily is a wiggle worm and when changing her diaper, or getting her dressed, she wants to roll over and fights you until it is over. So of course I was fighting her to get her changed after her nap and when I went to put the diaper in the pail, which is right next to the dresser, she decided it was her chance to get away and she went for the tuck and roll and off she went! I saw the whole thing and my hand was there but no on her. I did make contact with her as she went down, but she went. It wasn't that far of a fall and there was a nice plush rug to catch her:) but I remember seeing her leg tucked up and under. I immediately picked her up, and she was crying hard. Took her a little big to relax. I finished getting her dressed and we loaded up to head to my G.Ma's for dinner.

Lily had calmed down and was a little sensitive when moved funny and wanted to be held all night. But since she was moving her toes, would kind of move her leg. We didn't think it was broken! I thought we would wait it out over night and see how she was in the morning.

Morning came and she slept on her back the whole night, didn't move. It still seemed to hurt. I talked to mom in the morning and she said she was coming down and I should call the doctor and take her in, just to make sure. And so after 8 hours at the doctors office, taking x-rays, back to doctors office, and off to the ER at Primary Children's, she was put in a soft splint and had a broken femur! It was a horrible mommy moment for me. I was a wreck and felt horrible for her. She is such a good baby and still managed to be the happiest girl considering.

Lily was put in a cast a week later, and we actually go in this Wednesday to get it off! 4 weeks only, that was great. She figured out real quick how to roll and then take off crawling and even start pulling herself up. LIke it wasn't even there. She just dragged it behind her. I am sure Lily will be crusing when the cast comes off and it will feel like a load has been taken off!

I am glad it will be over and I won't have to tell the story, over and over, everywhere I go:)

On May 8th, the twins turned 1! As everyone tell us, " we survived the first year!" Honestly it is a blur. The main thing I can recall, is that it was busy. I have a lot of neighbors having babies and I listen to them tell stories about the lack of sleep, eating every 3 hours, etc. And it makes me a little sad. I never went through that with Mac and Lily. Don't get me wrong...part of it I enjoyed. But I missed the whole newborn phase with them. It seems weird and like I missed something. Because once they came home, of course they got thrown into the chaos and I think they had to grow up fast. And they did. They are both becoming their own little people and the personalities are really starting to show.

 MAC
Image
Mac...discovered early on...about 9 months, that he could start moving. He mastered an army crawl and planking and by 11 months was crawling. Once he starting moving, her realized how great it was and it made him much happier. He still is a sensitive boy, though. He is the skinny one, and is way to active and unfocused to eat. Took him sometime to try baby food, but is now loving finger foods. He prefers it over baby food. Mac is always moving and starting to pull himself up. He has started to fight back with Lily and will take her bottle since she does the same to him. He cries whenever I am in the room...wants to crawl all over me on the floor, and is the happiest when I am not around.

 LILY
 Image
Lily...she didn't figure out the crawling until about 11-12months. She started with a simple army crawl, but preferred to roll to get where she was going. She soon realized she wanted to keep up with her brother and joined it about a month ago. Only to have broke her femur(on mother's day...another story, and not my proudest mommy moment) and is back to her rolling. She has figured out how to crawl and drag the leg behind her. She is a chunk...only compared to Mac, and loves to eat, but will have nothing to do with real food. She knows how to tease her brother and has started playing peek-a-boo by covering her face with one hand...very cute. Lily is still a happy baby...even with the broken leg. She will cry when she sees me, more of a whimper, and is a spitting image of Taylor as a baby.

twins?

Yes we had twins. Yes they were born at the same time, etc, etc. But these two are far from anything "twin-like." They are so very different.

Everything they do is the complete opposite. It is crazy...I wonder if having 2 girls or 2 boys would have changed things. They are slowing interacting with each other...kind of in their own worlds.

I get asked a lot, "is it as hard as they say...having twins?" My response, it isn't hard but it is non stop busy. I am always doing something. Changing a diaper, feeding a baby, getting kids dressed, laundry, laundry, laundry, dishes, dishes, dishes...it is never ending. The hardest part, not being able to do those simple errands that I once did with just taylor and ryan. Running to the grocery store, post office runs, etc. I have to plan ahead and wait for eric(or my mom) to be home, so I can go. I must admit, running errands is my favorite thing to do. I am down 4 kids and I can MOVE so fast.

I am waiting for the twins to start to moving more. Crawling, etc. I think that is when it might become "hard." I still can't believe I have 4 kids under the age of 4, and how I function. Mornings are the most difficult. One to wake up, two to change 3 diapers, get 4 kids dressed, make breakfast for 2, and feed the babies, sometimes start a load of laundry because there were blowouts, and THEN try to get myself ready. Not to mention I take taylor to school 2 times a week by 9:00 am. My mom comes down most thursday and relieves me of the trek out with all the kids for 10 mins.

And I even find myself not being able to go to the bathroom in peace. I am followed around all day by Taylor and Ryan. When I asked taylor, "why do you guys follow me everywhere, can't I even go the bathroom in peace?" Her reply, " but your our mother!" BOOM! can't argue you with that.:)
