From the mind behind the Metaverse.

Sorry to Zuck-dunk two days in a row, but it’s fair to say that when the Meta CEO predicts AI is the next big thing in social media, you should take it with a grain of salt.

Guillermo Esteves:

I definitely trust the visionary that brought us the Metaverse to tell me this is the future of social media.

Samsung’s AR glasses are coming this year.

That’s according to Seong Cho, head of marketing for mobile, during today’s quarterly earnings call. Discussing plans for 2026, he mentioned XR form factors including “next-generation AR glasses.” Samsung has been developing the glasses with Google as a follow-up to Galaxy XR, but this is the first we’ve heard of a release window.

Bill Gates on the climate of fear under Trump.

The leaders of US businesses are more scared than he thought:

I was at a conference where they said, how many of you are afraid to speak out? And only like four people raised their hands and I said, wow, this is even worse than I thought. People are afraid to speak out about being afraid to speak out. I mean, because everybody in the room should have raised their hand. Are you kidding?

Elon Musk invests $2 billion in Elon Musk.

In its earnings report today, Tesla disclosed a $2 billion investment in xAI “as part of their recent publicly-disclosed financing round.” Bloomberg reported earlier this year that xAI, which also owns X.com and the Grok AI chatbot, burned about $7.8 billion in the first nine months of 2025. Tesla claims that the investment in xAI is “intended to enhance Tesla’s ability to develop and deploy AI products and services into the physical world at scale.”

Clawdbot’s bad day.

Peter Steinberger, the creator of the trending Moltbot (former Clawdbot) AI agent, talks to TBPN about how Anthropic contacted him to rebrand the project, which he named after Claw’d, the Claude Code mascot.

Steinberger also recounted how crypto scammers took advantage of the name change to push a phony crypto coin. “Everything that could have gone wrong today went wrong,” he said.

The head of Amazon Game Studios is leaving.

Amazon announced in October that it would be ditching MMOs and cranking out party games, and now Hartmann is departing, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reports. We spoke with Hartmann in 2021 about Amazon’s gaming strategy at the time; things have changed since then.

It’s going to be a Scott Pilgrim spring.

The upcoming beat ‘em up Scott Pilgrim EX, which brings back the creative team behind the last (very good) Scott Pilgrim beat ‘em up, now has a release date. It’s dropping March 3rd, and should hopefully make for a good companion piece to the fascinating animated series on Netflix.

Redwood Materials nabs $425 million for battery recycling and energy storage.

The company, which was led by ex-Tesla CTO JB Straubel, says it just closed its series E funding, including participation from Google and other investors. The money will be put toward building out Redwood Materials’ energy storage platform as well as its EV battery recycling and critical minerals business. And in a blog post, the company gestures at the current debate over AI data centers and electricity demand, saying:

As electricity demand surges—driven by AI, data centers, manufacturing and electrification—energy storage is no longer optional; it is essential infrastructure.

Instacart’s “Preference Picker” lets you choose how ripe you’d like your bananas.

You can tell your Instacart shopper whether you prefer not ripe, almost ripe, or ripe bananas, as well as receive a photo of the bundle your shopper picked out.

Instacart says it will explore expanding this feature to avocado ripeness and deli meat thickness in the future, and it’s showing off a “Bananas” Super Bowl ad with Ben Stiller and Benson Boone to highlight the feature.
