Atta girl!

I had a friend in University. We were pretty close. Very different people, but we got on really well and she did some really sweet tuff for me I'm still grateful for.

Things changed after graduation. I knew she was going through some rough stuff, but I had just moved here and so couldn't really be there for her in any way except through email. So I don't know the whole story, just that she started saying some really racist and homophobic things that seemed really out of character. I tried to play it off as her joking for a while, but it ot too much for me. Eventually we cut ties.

A few years ago, I got a message from her parents asking if I knew where she was. Her parents are the sweetest people in the world, and they said she was acting really out of character (which I knew) and had just disappeared. I couldn't help them, but I've been worried ever since. If she was suffering from a mental illness that wasn't diagnosed, I felt terrible for not seeing the signs and trying to get her help.

I just say a picture of her on a news website, at a counter-protest against the horrible WBC. Holding a sign that says "God loves EVERYBODY" and beaming from ear to ear. Her dad is in another picture from the same protest.

Whatever happened that helped her get her life together, I couldn't be happier for her. I'll probably never see her again, but I'm so relieved right now. It's a beautiful thing when people put hate behind them and come back to themselves.
