OUCH!

I have a horrible, horrible ear infection! I think it's just otitis (swimmer's ear) but it hurts like a really painful thing. The medication is doing NOTHING; does anyone know any good home remedies for this? I've heard about using vodka or a solution of 50% water - 50% white vinegar in the ear, but I'm a bit hesitant to go sticking those in there unless someone reasonably sane has tried it first!
