Thoughts on SPN 6.06 and some insane crackpot theories
You know what to do with the cut!
(um... in case you don't... you should click on it.)
Excellent episode! I'm giving it an 8.5 out of 10. It lost half a point because the gory dentist scene made me laugh instead of cringe and the other point because it needed more Cas. Aside from that, marvellous! A great blend of humour (Bobby gets pedicures!) and angst (Holy shit - poor Sam! Poor Dean! Poor tongues!).
I also have to give props to JP for his job with the scene where Dean confronts him and he says he froze. It was like the dark flipside of all his Puppy!Sammy moments. A good enough throwback to the real deal to convince, but with just a little unnameable something missing. I don't know what the rules are for "acting like you don't have a soul but don't want anyone to know" but I will say Jared sure as hell sold me on it. I think Jensen gets a lot of the professional attentions because A) he's branching out into directing now and B) when the series started, IMO he was the stronger actor. But Jared's grown so much, and it looks like he's really going to get to shine next week.
Okay, scroll down for crackpot theories about where this season may be going...
1) Re: Sam's soul. This may be insane, but I think Crowley's got it. In my weird personal universe (guided tours available for those with strong stomachs) Sam made a deal with Crowley so he could go back and hunt with Dean. But he didn't want to remember that he'd damned himself for his brother; that would have led to resentment and bitterness. So Crowley made him forget before he sent him back, and without that soul the emotional impetus for reuniting with Dean just wasn't there. That explains why Crowley is suddenly "the king of hell". Plus we'd get more Crowley, and more Crowley is love.
2) Balthazar. Missing weapons of Heaven. Cas is "at war". I'm getting the feeling the powers that be might be thinking spin-off. Not sure how I'd feel about that (Cas without Dean???) but I'd be sure to watch before passing judgement. I definitely think Misha has the charisma to carry a show on his own and if he got a strong supporting cast it could work well.
If either of this things turns out to be what actually happens, I'll be stunned. But speculation costs nothing and it's good fun!
