Somehow I can't believe it's already over but here we are
Work has been gruelling the past few weeks, so writing has been slow as has any form of planning anything — but it doesn't mean that I haven't been thinking™
BANGS
So, in hindsight... The way bangs have been modded this year was kind of disheartening because it often felt like Mods were just looking for the next bullet point on their fandom resumé to then proceed to zines... Which is kind of sad brcause I do believe it's very obvious to participants if a Mod actually cares about an event and the people involved or... Well, doesn't.
Given the fact that I organise stuff in my free-time as well with many people and prepping involved, I always think it's your choice to sign up for the task but once you're in and you don't want to drop, you better are /in/. We don't have to talk about occasional slumps and times when you're not as present/preppy/whatever as you'd like to be BUT you owe your participants who put their trust in you. If you're not ready to have responsibility, you're not ready to be a Mod.
At least, that's my personal opinion, I'm pretty sure there are a lot of successful mods out there with a more lax approach and that's fine!
However, back on track to that review...
I participated in 7 bangs

Of those 5 bangs as a participant, one of my artists dropped, my writer vanished, one of my artists ghosted until just the day before posting,... In a lot of those servers, the Mods were either hard to catch or very inactive, not even checking check-ins, so that's my biggest takeaway from it all. It's a bitter summary after I had a blast during 2021 bang season.
EXCHANGES
Oh boy. I have written 22 fics for exchanges. Wild.
While I absolutely love the concept of gifting each other and writing sth based off someone else's prompts, I'm missing the sense of community I got from my early bangs where you were just vibing, sharing wips, etc.
However, I loved every second of my exchange mania after Vri introduced me to them fkdksjs
ZINES
I had two zines left from 2021 that shipped this year, so it was nice receiving them ans finally holding them in my hands~
THEN i joined 5 more zines, 5 1/2 if you're counting the Thousand Horizons' bonus round we bribed the mods into.
Due to my busy work schedule, i couldn't be as active on the servers as I wished to but some were doing a lot better than others community-wise.
I loved the vibe of the WLW zine, it's full of people passionate about these works, so much even that i sometimes feel like an imposter, lmao
The Gojo Cat (which is due to arrive any day now) was SO much fun bc it was such a fun idea in itself and everybody was just enjoying the absolute crack premises we came up with.
Then I was called as a pinch hitter to the Domme zine's kink add-on, all about femdoms, and challenged myself with my very first no-nonsense non-con and it was... Difficult. Haha, it catapulted me right out of my comfort zone and while it felt cleansing, it also felt very bleak. I guess I'll stay with very dubious consent for now.
MODDING
Started the year with a bang, well, an exchange actually. The secret easter bunny exchange remains my baby and I had a blast. Everybody was super energised and I hope I could channel this as a mod, making the experience as enjoyable as possible for everyone on my part. There are things I wish I could have done better but it is what it is and working with people is a challenge in itself after all.
Next event was the Lady Nagant Bang. That bang showed me how important it is to have a motivated team to work with and to clarify well ahead HOW you wanna run an event — I'm certainly not an easy person to work with but I hope most participants were happy with their outcome.
AND finally, Valkyries Week. Given this was a mature WLW week that focused specifically on "difficult" themes and not just roseydosey, our target group was small but I couldn't have been happier with the outcome and the enthusiasm everybody participating showed, it really warmed my heart. And I hope it showed that WLW works can get nitty-gritty as well.
LOOKING AHEAD—
2023 is certainly gonna be interesting. With Twitter slowly imploding in itself, a lot of zines might lose their follower bases and therefore potential customers. My best bet is that promotions in discord servers will be the no1 point, given tumblr's eccentricities.
But that's that. My plan is a reverse bang and I hope I can get it started soon. I'm off the week after Christmas, so i hope i can use that time to get things sorted — starting with a Mod team I trust and who knows my requirements of a mod team, haha.
I'd also love to do something small for Lunar New Year given it's the year of the rabbit and therefore my bunny wife's year. But I don't know yet and time's running out π
Anywho. I'll probably take a break from bangs, simply because I lost trust in them. Only exception is if it's a team I know and a theme I really really wanna do.
Okay,enough rambling from me for now. I just wanted to make up for my prolonged silence I guess, bahahaha

Much ado about nothing

Fandom is made up of fans π so as soon as you're even just thinking about the source material, be it meta, writing, art, cosplay, podfic, graphics, edits, videos... Or even just daydreaming, you're part of fandom. If you choose to share any of your thoughts/creations online, is up to you but no matter what you decide on, it doesn't make you any less a fan, a part of fandom or more/less valid β and if anyone says different, tell them to fuck off
It's also not about the perceived quality of your output, sb who enjoys making whacky memes is just as much part of the fandom as someone who writes that one 500k fic everyone knows or the reader that leaves the loveliest comments... Fandom is a refuge and you choose how much you're willing and able to give
Also, with different platforms it's easier ti navigate those feelings of not being able to mix those two beasts inside of you; for example you can drop all that juicy meta on dw or tumblr, do threads with headcanons on twitter and put all your horny fic on ao3 without having to mix them, but like-minded people will follow you for your thoughts
we believe in ourselves and our craft here, now be nice to yourself pls bc you put effort and passion in your writing π it deserves everyone's but especially your love

But visiting Vri and just having a bit time off has filled my creative brain again, as well as the fact that from May 1st my contract at work will turn permanent, so that's a huge relief as well! (even though my big boss still doesn't like me much)

Ahhhh, my newest obsession. I love Jaja's interpretation of Adult Uraraka. She's a total badass, no doubt about that, however, the glass ceiling is hard to break so she is stuck in a situation she is not entirely happy with -- AH. Seriously. The way Jaja is telling us this story, the wary hero Uravity, not quite sure of her place in the world and tired of the way she is marketed to her (obvious) strenghts with nobody really wanting to look deeper... the story also starts with a bang, that first chapter absorbs you and never lets you off its hook.
(I took stock of the graphics I've made in the last 12 months... 130 are for fics, that's round about 70 for recs I've made. So you better get comfy, we'll be here for some time)

Summary:
Working for the Hero Public Safety Commission is a bitch, Ochako can testify. She spends her days playing the fluffy, friendly, and approachable rescue hero they can sell licensed bike helmets for. In the night, though, she has a new mission: Infiltrate the Alliance of Deviants, a new villain group whose members are shrouded in mystery... except for Toga Himiko.
Ochako's bad enough at acting for the commercials the HPSC makes her do, will she be able to pretend she wants to become a villain enough to be Toga's honeypot?
Unfortunately there's not much choice, as Ochako will do whatever it takes to pay the bills.

Jan. 31st, 2022 09:04 pmI got my mobile keyboard -- funnily enough, this reminded me of my all-time favourite phone. The Chacha by HTC
It was my whole pride and i texted away to my heart's content, i was so fast... then Whatsapp appeared on the horizon and the Chacha couldn't download it, so it had to go (rip little soldier)
Anyway, we will see how the mobile keyboard works out!
At least, I now have the /possibility/ to write on the go, heh
Second, I learnt how to put a sticky post on the journal -- seriously, I had to google it and then was transferred back to DW, telling me to go to my Settings page, but I know it now
I also subscribed to a tag and saved two posts to my memories.
I feel like a 80-yo discovering the internet for the first time... but i am working my way through this scape

Jan. 28th, 2022 10:59 pm Ouf, i haven't gotten to write a lot lately since I'm busy with the Nagant Big Bang, the Miruko exchange, as well as actual writing without making any progress
At least it feels like it.
I've been working on my new job for 2 months now and I still try to find a good rhythm for during the week bc I keep daydreaming about writing but then never actually do the writing once I'm free
I'll order a keyboard for my phone, so we'll see if i can maybe use some time on the train? π
I also realized that... I am not a big fan of challenges, it feels too much like doing chores than actually enjoying them; I had organised one a while back for graphic edits with friends and they were only complaining about topics, deadlines, etc. But I had fun either way, even if I was annoyed with the two of them...
Other challenges though, idk... I guess I'll stay out of them π
Also, I'm still trying to get a hang on DW. It's a lot more difficult to keep track of and actually write sth bc you don't have the excuse of brevity of Twitter... You also can't retweet/reblog other people's posts to switch it up from time to time — which ngl, i am missing to a certain degree. I read a couple of good posts and would like to share them more organically, instead of linking them
So yea, I guess I'm still learning to be an actual adult atm, but we're going somewhere, so that's not all bad
At least it feels like it.

In your own space, talk about an idea you wish you had the time / talent / energy to do.
I'd love to do sth more sci-fi, pirate-y, space pirate-y... And while I see the settings in front of my inner eye, I can't, for the love of god, get myself to learn vocab that I'd need... I started a fic last June, but it sounded so... Ugh, unnatural bc you can feel how out of my depth i was
Ugh, i just deleted a whole paragraph about writing as a non-native speaker, idk, is it just me or are a lot of those challenges like... Very tempting to go into negative areas?

snowflake_challenge Challenge #2 Set some goals for the coming year.I wanna try even more new things. Last year I learnt to put myself out there, getting into new discord servers and just enjoying life as a blob on the internet, so I want to get more adventurous on the base of this foundation :<
- /Only/ writing what I really enjoy writing
- /Only/ posting what I want to post
- Getting into more fandoms and becomine one with even more big-brained hiveminds
On a more private note:
- Going back to Iceland
- my own apartment again before I go crazy
- Getting my bike license (it's been a dream for so long, let 2022 be the charm)

I joined GYWO with a light wc pledge of 75k, in hindsight I'm thinking I could have chosen a habit pledge instead but I'm noting the days I'm writing as well and I mostly just want something to hold me accountable so I don't find excuses staring holes into the air.

/Somebody/ dragged me into the chocobox exchange and ngl, on the one hand I am terrified but I am mostly thrilled rn because the two people I am writing for have phenomenal requests and aaahhhh, I wanna do them justice!

I have only one posted JJK fic so far although I have four more in the works/ready to post/in zine jail, but well, to the other participants I might be a bit of a newcomer, so I hope I'll be able to give my giftee what they are hoping for, but really, the prompts are god-tier, I have so much fun with them!
Big Bang Mod
My first time modding a Big Bang, I am excited as it's for Lady Nagant from BNHA and she's awesome. Can't wait for all the quality content resulting from the event!
Secret Easter Bunny Exchange
My baby. I am so, so, so excited. I have really fallen into exchange hell, BUT this one, I am modding and ughhh, I just love it. I didn't think there would be like BIG interest for a Miruko exchange, simply bc I have the feeling exchanges are more popular with other fandoms so I am really happy that we already have more than 40 followers on Twitter even if not all of them will participate that's already more than I hoped for. And we haven't even opened sign-ups yet!

I am still writing quite a bit, but I feel like most of it is for my own entertainment without the need to post it on AO3, so I'm just watching my pile grow and put off thinking about tags and summaries for as long as possible LMAO

I joined GYWO with a light wc pledge of 75k, in hindsight I'm thinking I could have chosen a habit pledge instead but I'm noting the days I'm writing as well and I mostly just want something to hold me accountable so I don't find excuses staring holes into the air.

/Somebody/ dragged me into the chocobox exchange and ngl, on the one hand I am terrified but I am mostly thrilled rn because the two people I am writing for have phenomenal requests and aaahhhh, I wanna do them justice!

I have only one posted JJK fic so far although I have four more in the works/ready to post/in zine jail, but well, to the other participants I might be a bit of a newcomer, so I hope I'll be able to give my giftee what they are hoping for, but really, the prompts are god-tier, I have so much fun with them!

My first time modding a Big Bang, I am excited as it's for Lady Nagant from BNHA and she's awesome. Can't wait for all the quality content resulting from the event!
Secret Easter Bunny Exchange
My baby. I am so, so, so excited. I have really fallen into exchange hell, BUT this one, I am modding and ughhh, I just love it. I didn't think there would be like BIG interest for a Miruko exchange, simply bc I have the feeling exchanges are more popular with other fandoms so I am really happy that we already have more than 40 followers on Twitter even if not all of them will participate that's already more than I hoped for. And we haven't even opened sign-ups yet!

I've really enjoyed writing rarepairs for the last few weeks, also reminded me of why I am writing and that numbers don't matter. I don't have a lot of issues with the stats, i love watching numbers doing funky shit, however, there is one exception and it's when bang fics don't do really well... I feel like i failed my artists, none of my three bang fics did "great" in terms of numbers, and it's really slowing me down working on the rarepair bang fic bc... It's gonna be a rarepair, it's niche by default and I'm just... I really don't wanna disappoint the person I'm working on since they're so hyped...
Anyway... I'll just keep spewing my silly little fics, for those i don't care about numbers or quality or anything, i just do what i want
Speaking of which, i really wanna write a harem fic but I'm currently unsure which characters... If in doubt, I'd gravitate towards Rumi, ngl, and have her own all the heroes, villains and civilians... /everyone/

Thought of the day: I am a bit salty atm, but yeah, I always see the same people preaching about appreciating writers who do not really follow their own rules, asking for kindness and benefit of the doubt for themselves but never granting others that much courtesy; also weighing every word in a comment like readers are hiding insults behind "i liked that" because they're using one exclamation mark instead of two. I suppose this comes from insecurities and fear of being a disappointment, but sometimes it's hard giving these people a pass... I guess this comes with a bigger subscriber number when you see how many people want to read your stuff but then don't comment/kudo, so your mind will tell you they didn't like the new piece as much as the last one, it must be shit... Working with a beta for a bang atm who does not like my sentence structure, it seems... Will have to think what to do about that; like i don't fault them or am particularly upset, not everybody vibes with that and I know not all my syntax is correct, but some of those things are still intentionally written a certain way, so... I guess I just don't want them to feel useless or that they weren't helpful? There's still time though and I don't think it will be much of a problem in the end, just overthinking as usual
Anyway, didn't write today, instead worked through my mfl list so i could close some tabs, hell yea
