A few more bun pics (along with the area I'm going to creatively xpen in a month or so). I've ordered her cage but it won't arrive until next week. For now, I've decided to keep her where she is because it has a grate, which is more sanitary for her post-spay. After she's fully healed up, I'll move her into her own cage with paper mulch critter litter/timothy hay over the top.

She loves her bed. I thought she'd rip up the cushion (in which case I'd toss it and put a cotton handtowel in there), but she hasn't. She snuggles beside it.

Pics! )

Hello yes I've been lost in a.) work and b.) The Last Kingdom and c.) Flight Rising's 'Night of the Nocturne' since... well, whenever my last post before the Snowflake Challenge responses happened to be.

a.) Work's good, I'm probably going full-time (haHA at LAST) sometime this month, v. hopeful in that respect

b.) It's been ages since a show inspired me to dig around at source material. I've been working at picking up Old English again, as well as reading ...translated homilies, what.

c.) Site festival was decent, got loads of plunder goods, satisfied.

Look at these stupidly cute adopts I commissioned for my twin Gen1's for a sec. )

I've missed out on these up until now! I meant to take part but work, life, etc. I'll keep my answers to the first six quite brief just to join the fray. :)

Day 1 - Talk about your Happy Place - the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane.

Flight Rising was the first thing that came to mind, so Flight Rising it is. The site gives me something to do, things to look at, and manages to also fulfill 'mindless fun' while still accomplishing small tasks that end up paying off (as far as site usage goes). For instance: gathering daily, Glimmer & Gloom for 20 minutes for 75k per day, some profile-tweaking, some leveling in the Coliseum. I reduce things at Baldwin's while I work because it's a couple clicks every half hour or so.

Onwards... )

I added a few resource links to my profile, as promised. I'll continue to add more as I come across them since we're seeing a lot of influx here on Dreamwidth. :)

If you're new to the site and trying to figure out how to connect with people/locate the action, I'd highly recommend joining and subscribing to the following communities. It's easy to unsubscribe later, when you've had enough, or--if you wish--it's simple enough to alter your subscription views so the communities aren't visible.

I'm finally free from work (as of noon today)! For the rest of today, as well as tomorrow and Saturday, I intend to: read more of the Saxon stories, try to get some writing done, catch up on some commenting here on DW, and possibly go to the store because somehow I'm out of ramen soup (wtffff).

Randomly, in the sense of 'I don't know if I mentioned this or not' but one of our neighbors left one of these on the cement blocks by the dumpsters, which serve as the complex's unofficial 'it still works' freebie swap zone. I, being the fix-it person that I am, nabbed it and promptly fixed it.

Problem, as presented: someone, likely a kid, tried to push a second dvd in over the one currently in it, which busted the dvd player. I fully opened up the set, as apparently the previous owner had tried to do, and found the internals in shambles. I think whomever tried to work with it mostly decided 'maybe if I shake it really hard' would do the trick. It... didn't.

A simple fix, though. I build computers; television parts are easy.

Now I have an extra tv/dvd combo player. If I get a Roku stick, it'll work with Netflix and Hulu (and whatever else Roku serves). Sweet deal.

The problem dvds were, hilariously, a porn and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I'll keep the Harry Potter dvd, but the porn went in the garbage (haha).

If you're a LiveJournal refugee like me, I expect most of the following will be old hat (though I occasionally find myself referencing these all the same). If you're joining Dreamwidth from Tumblr (or elsewhere), these FAQ guides might be worth checking out/bookmarking for future use. :)

What is a cut? How can I hide part of my entry behind a cut? Very useful for entries containing videos, large images, or text longer than several paragraphs such as fic. Creates, same as on Tumblr, a 'read more' option (except it's customizable).

More HTML markup for entries

How do I make a link to another Dreamwidth account, or an account on another service? Tag all your friends. Link your accounts on other sites for easy reference. Very handy.

Further FAQ articles for journal entries can be found here.

Around the time of LiveJournal's strikethrough event, another site called Vox was taking off. It didn't last long (sadly), but here's an article about it. I loved the platform! It was customizable, linking content from other sites was easy, image-hosting was a thing, and I thought--with the ease of use, and its growth--that it would stay, but it didn't make it (and the domain has since been purchased by a news agency).

I liked how easy it was to tailor entries. Images could be moved around, resized as desired, aligned as desired. When other people posted YouTube embeds and the like, it didn't stretch out everyone's styles. I think it was possible to 'like' posts on your friend-feed, but I'm not certain (it's been a decade).

The Wayback Machine has the registration page which looked like this.

I would've taken Vox's platform type over Tumblr's happily, but we ended up with the blue hellsite and, more recently, the titty prohibition. I'd rather be here on Dreamwidth over Tumblr, but I never rooted myself into Tumblr's userbase. Tumblr just wasn't my 'home' so much as a site I.... reblogged things on, largely to kill time.

All in all, I'm starting to feel Old on the Internet.

Although I've absorbed a great deal of Star Trek, encompassing (a lot) of TOS and associated films, nearly all of TNG, all of Voyager, it was (finally) Star Trek: Deep Space 9 that cemented me in the fandom. A certain Doctor Julian Bashir and Plain Simple (Elim) Garak, in particular, were responsible.

Of course, the series ended and the world moved on, but not me. I'm still over here, shrieking about my favorites in whatever corner of the internet I happen to occupy.

To that end, if you're interested in engaging with post-DS9 events (with particular focus on Cardassia, Garak, and transmissions between Garak and Julian), I can't recommend the following enough:

A Stitch in Time by Andrew J. Robinson (who portrayed Garak in the series)
The Never-Ending Sacrifice by Una McCormack
Hollow Men by Una McCormack (disclaimer: I haven't read this one yet, but plan to!)
Worlds of Deep Space Nine #1: Cardassia and Andor (Cardassia's half of the novel by Una McCormack)
The Fall: The Crimson Shadow by Una McCormack
Enigma Tales by Una McCormack

Andy and Una McCormack do a wonderful job of breathing life (and truly excellent writing) into the continued universe, so dipping into the above serve as an excellent continuation to engage with. I've re-read The Crimson Shadow and Enigma Tales at least twice each, ever since excitedly purchasing them upon release.

Aside from the above, I regularly browse AO3 for works spanning the full length of the series (as well as works tied in with books noted above). I (sadly) don't have anything of my own up on AO3 for the fandom (yet), but the depths of my Google Docs have a few things rattling around. As soon as I'm satisfied with something, it'll doubtless join the ranks on AO3.
