S.A.L.I.E. is a meditative machine, designed and created by artist Adam Gibney, that displays sounds and light in personal environments. It interprets data transmitted by the M2 Irish marine weather buoy. The S.A.L.I.E. network was introduced as part of workshops at Empower Balbriggan in an engagement that included writing workshops co-facilitated by Louise Lewis. As part of this engagement, participants were asked to respond to S.A.L.I.E.'s S.O.S. (Sea or Self) calibration Script for 30 wave cycles each day, for one lunar month, logging fleeting thoughts and feelings, prompted by live sea conditions. After one lunar cycle, each participant's logbook was anonymously returned to Adam and Louise. The content within these logbooks was then rearranged by Louise to create a collectively generated piece of prose. This is the collaborative art piece that you can hear now.
Thank you to Áine, Elizabeth, Gerry, Karen, Mary, Mel, and Toni for your engagement and for trusting us with your words.
