US Route Numbering Application
To send a USRN Application, please note the following information:
- Please send your application(s) to usroutes@aashto.org.
- Please send your color maps in PDF format and completed information to usroutes@aashto.org.
You will be notified when the committee will meet to review and vote on applications. For Interstate applications, please be sure to include any and all supporting documents you have from FHWA.
Application Process
The following steps in the process of U.S. Route Numbering applications must be completed in order for new changes to become official.
- The committee reviews applications and makes recommendations to approve or disapprove the request.
- The committee shall report all recommendations and decisions to the Council on Highways & Streets for its approval. This will take place at the CHS’s spring and annual meetings.
- In the case of interstate route requests, both FHWA and CHS must approve. (Refer to the FHWA Highway System Links tab above.)
- These decisions will be presented to the AASHTO Board of Directors in the CHS report at the Board’s business meeting.
