Christmas pictures yesterday

Last year, 2008~ This was our girls Christmas photo and I had them done at Sears. Now lets' compare how much they have grown.Image
This year 2009Image You can't tell but they both grew into 2 sizes larger clothing and at least 3 sizes larger in shoes.....Well, I went to Sears Portraits for Christmas pictures again, this year. I didn't get pictures of me, with them, since recently in ALL my photos I am SO non-photogenic. I look so bloated this pregnancy and look like a racoon with a mothers mask of tired freckles and dark circles under my eyes..something I never had so long before, NO THANKS.

I like Sears Portraits..they always do a great job, for me with their well trained photographers and they never overlap in scheduling and have an amazing cost per packet. This year, it was only $7.99 for a packageof 35 photos at least 1 or 2 of each larger size . I figured we will be having a new addition to the family early this next year, so I also renewed my Smile Savers card for about 13 bucks, which gets me all those year round coupons in the mail...

Isn't Tali cute here? SHe was so Blaze about smiling that I am surprised we got any Big smiles out of her. Yet she was better than last year at least she said Cheese this time and didn't make a run for it....The photographer Elina who was great with the girls, took at least 2 dozen and it was edited down to 8 ...with smiles.

In some of these pictures, we used one of our Christmas ornaments from the tree. I liked it cause it had the word BELIEVE embroidered in the little velvet pillow with real chimey sleigh bells hanging. Lana refused to hold it, so we hung it on the window pane.

the fake Christmas background looks okay when it's done in Sepia.

Precious Family Candid moments

Image
At the wildlife park while being busy playing with the camera amazed at the wonderfully pink and boring flamingo, I realized my family was no where near me and then I followed the path I guessed they moved on to and from behind them I found this picture moment and was glad I could make it forever.

Interesting

Why Toddlers Don't Do What They're Told
Study using SpongeBob SquarePants shows they're not ignoring you, but rather storing what you say for future reference.

Are you listening to me?
Didn't I....
just tell you to get your coat? Helloooo! It's cold out there

So goes many a "conversation" between parent and toddler. It seems everything you tell them either falls on deaf ears or goes in one ear and out the other. But that's not how it works.
Toddlers listen, they just store the information for later use, a new study finds.
"I went into this study expecting a completely different set of findings," said psychology professor Yuko Munakata, Ph.D., of the University of Colorado at Boulder. "There is a lot of work in the field of cognitive development that focuses on how kids are basically little versions of adults trying to do the same things adults do, but they're just not as good at it yet. What we show here is they are doing something completely different."
Munakata and colleagues used a computer game and a setup that measures the diameter of the pupil of the eye to determine the mental effort of the child to study the cognitive abilities of 3-and-a-half-year-olds and 8-year-olds.
The game involved teaching children simple rules about two cartoon characters—Blue from Blue's Clues and SpongeBob SquarePants—and their preferences for different objects. The children were told that Blue likes watermelon, so they were to press the happy face on the computer screen only when they saw Blue followed by a watermelon. When SpongeBob appeared, they were to press the sad face on the screen.
"The older kids found this sequence easy, because they can anticipate the answer before the object appears," said doctoral student Christopher Chatham, who participated in the study. "But preschoolers fail to anticipate in this way. Instead, they slow down and exert mental effort after being presented with the watermelon, as if they're thinking back to the character they had seen only after the fact."
The pupil measurements showed that 3-year-olds neither plan for the future nor live completely in the present. Instead, they call up the past as they need it.
"For example, let's say it's cold outside and you tell your 3-year-old to go get his jacket out of his bedroom and get ready to go outside," Chatham explained. "You might expect the child to plan for the future, [and] think, 'Okay, it's cold outside so the jacket will keep me warm.' But what we suggest is that this isn't what goes on in a 3-year-old's brain. Rather, they run outside, discover that it is cold, and then retrieve the memory of where their jacket is, and then they go get it."

Biggest Loser Tryouts

Well... I tried out after backing out almost 3x and then my cousin Laite, (Filipe's sister) backed out and then got back in right before the day...We had V.I.P. passes to go to the front of the line...and as we passed I got stink eye from a couple of people and heard some talk but couldn't make out what they said. My lil cuz' was mad when we walked ..." What the BLeep she said that guy just said "I wasn't fat....what? She was bugged until I turned to her and said ..."Um Laite ...isn't that a compliment?"
She looked at me and then we both got a good laugh...Well normally it is unless your trying out for the Biggest Loser...We didn't make callbacks but we had a great day anyways...Don't think I didn't feel like a reject not getting callbacks but there was great relief in it as well.

You're Eating … What?

By Sally Wadyka
Strawberry Yogurt?

Image
Want some dead bugs with your dinner?

Well, that's just one of the freaky ingredients involved in making some popular processed foods. And while all seven of these sound incredibly icky—though presumably used to help make your food tastier or look better—some additives are decidedly more disturbing than others. Here's what you're eating—which may inspire you to start contemplating those ingredient labels a lot more closely.
Carmine
According to the FDA, this red food coloring (also known as cochineal extract) is made from dried, ground bugs . The Dactylopius coccus costa insect is native to Peru and the Canary Islands, where it feeds on red berries. The berries accumulate in the females' stomachs and in their unhatched larvae—which is what gives the extract its red coloring. Carmine is one of the most widely used coloring agents, and food manufacturers routinely use it to turn foods shades of pink, red or purple. Chances are it's what makes the color of your strawberry yogurt or that cranberry drink look so appealing.
But the problem is that at the moment, you have no way of knowing if you're ingesting these little red bugs. Instead, the label will simply read, "artificial color" or "color added." But the Vegetarian Legal Action Network petitioned the FDA to disclose the presence of carmine, and in 2010, that requirement will go into effect. "But it will still be listed only as carmine or cochineal extract, with no mention of the ingredient's source," says Michael Jacobson, Ph.D., executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest. "The onus will be on the consumer to know what carmine is, and that's asking a lot."

Just in case you haven't eaten your fill of bugs, Image

Here's another opportunity for insect consumption. Shellac—which is used to make that shiny coating on jelly beans and to give fresh fruits and vegetables that perfect, glossy finish—is made from the excretions of Kerria lacca insects that are native to Thailand. Again, vegetarian lobbyists have urged the FDA to require that labeling indicate if fruits and vegetables are coated with an insect-derived substance. The FDA wouldn't go that far, but, according to Jacobson, it did require produce packers to disclose whether any coating used is animal- or vegetable-derived. "But it would be on a placard or on the box of produce, not in bold type on the fruit or vegetable itself," says Jacobson, and not necessarily displayed to grocery shoppers. "And I don't know that the regulation is very strongly enforced," he adds.

Those innocent-looking little Gummi Bears
Image

...are hiding a somewhat distasteful secret. According to the USDA, the gelatin that gives them their kid-pleasing texture is created at the expense of several different animal parts, including ligaments, skin, tendons and bones. Though some non-animal versions of gelatin are available, vegetarians know to avoid packaged foods containing gelatin, unless it's specifically labeled as being derived from a vegetarian source.

So....for Valentines

Image
My 1st and Best"est", perfect"est" Valentine's night, was last night.
Well, while the rest of the U.S. world celebrated on Saturday, I babysat 4 of my favorite friends' kids. We exchanged snickerdoodles, and frosted valentine sugar cookies , a few poopy diapers and well, babysat.
However my friends Tamara & Johnny Feinga did a babysit switch. Aisake (Isaac)and I went out last nite and we had a great time. As you can tell from my latest music video we went and saw Inkheart and I thought it was good even though Aisake waved his hand and said it was okay. I kinda liked that fairytale, gone bad, with a happy ending of course! Then we went to His favorite place to eat ~Chipotle and stuffed ourselves with burritos. We shared the chicken and Balbacoa. oooooh I never tried that one before and it's my newest fave! I love sharing plates and he usually doesn't let me, unless I am super persuasive about how great my plate is!
Besides the food and movie, the really fun part was that we got to know eachother a little more. He surprisingly stopped at JoAnn's and went in, so I could ooh and ahhh at the store in Chandler, that looks more like Michaels than Joann's. It was funny cause I could sense how out of place he felt as he pretended to be interested in the end cap, that I realized had knitting needles and yarn displayed. At the checkout, he paid for the cute rainbow, princess and pooh bear, iron-on patches... that I wanted for our girls' boring jean overalls, that I found on sale last week at Target. He listened to me ramble on like that about the same ol' and really seemed interested in my ridiculous chatter, because he responded and asked questions....weird.
Then for him we went to "The electronics area in Walmart.. (lol) this is his favorite place. We considered buying something... I normally try and convince him we don't need...another DVD PLAYER, but this one records video cassetes to DVD...whoo hoo!
Unfortunately,;+( It was out of stock and the upscale model was almost $200 something more) but I still became interested in his search for the missing Magnabox and asked him and the electronics helper questions to try and find it and though we didn't,
I noticed we ended up really being interested in eachother's wants, a little more than usual. So last night, I believe I did begin to unravel a big tangled secret about the delicate mystery between a man and a woman.... C'mon, I bet you could Guess.

Talitha Cumi

Talitha Cumi

The Sun will rise, on her sweet face
He said, “Believe. She’s only sleeping”
“Talitha Cumi; Dear daughter, Arise!”
"Talitha Cumi" , the father cried.
open her eyes and bring her near
I want to know she’s not lost forever
Can you heal her heart and make her reappear?

That day of days of teaching all and His, disciples.
Three followed him, to The place, of Her 12 years

Those who were there
They wailed, they cried, Full of Despair and full of pride
without a comfort. over her last Breath. As if in vain,
as if they knew, but they could not

Believe in whom this stranger came for
they never knew, why his power was brought here
But how could He, even the Father’s teacher and their Redeemer,
Die for All?

Talitha Cumi; Dear Lamb, arise!
"Talitha Cumi, our Christ has died"
Open my eyes and bring me closer
I need to know, I’m not lost forever
And thou art near, erase my fear.

The Sun did rise, on his sweet face.
He said “Believe, I’m only sleeping.”

Last Friday midnite, I went to the E.R. for some problems with slight bleeding and I was told I had a common U.T.infection and was given meds and told to rest all day. I did get to see the baby on the ultrasound and hear the healthy heart beat of a 9 week old baby, although they said it was as small as 8 weeks. Two days later I went into labor pains every 5 minutes I was rushed to the hospital but just before was given a beautiful blessing from Heavenly Father, through my husband, that put me back at peace. Although I still had hope for the baby , The doctors were sorry to inform me that the fetus had went from the uterus to the cervex and I was now experiencing a miscarriage. Well it's been a few days since and I haven't really been able to do much. I am not sure if this would have been as hard if I had not seen that beautiful heartbeat and told that the baby was fine. Maybe however i will always remember how perfect and alive my baby was at one time. I believe we will meet again.

I spoke in Stake conference with him in person, at age 18: Since then, I always looked forward to his talks

LDS Apostle Joseph B. Wirthlin dies at 91
By Peggy fletcher stack
LDS Apostle Joseph B. Wirthlin showed up for work Monday morning at the church's downtown headquarters at his usual time -- 7 a.m. The 91-year-old worked for about an hour, then went to his Salt Lake City east-bench home. In the evening, he chatted with his son, Joseph B. Wirthlin Jr., about attending the LDS First Presidency Devotional on Sunday evening.
At about 10:40 p.m., Wirthlin's daughter, who was staying with him overnight, heard her father take two deep breaths, then he was gone. The family lowered the American flag at their home to half staff and left the Christmas lights blinking.
"He went on his own terms," Wirthlin's son said Tuesday, becoming emotional. "You are never ready to lose a loved one, but he was expecting a great reunion with my mother [who died in 2006] on the other side."
An LDS apostle since Oct. 9, 1986, Wirthlin held one of the top leadership positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. To the Mormon faithful, the 12 apostles and three members of the governing First Presidency are "prophets, seers and revelators."
Though revered by the church's 13 million members, Wirthlin, the church's oldest apostle, was seen as the epitome of humility and self-deprecating humor.
He will be remembered for his "sincere heart and ability to laugh with those around him," said Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. "He has been a true example of service, spanning several generations and vast geography."
As the news of Wirthlin's passing hit Mormons on the Internet, several bloggers commented on his homey sermons on kindness and generosity. They called him "down to earth" and "a spiritual giant."
"He often spoke about being aware of those who feel down or left out," Angie Whit wrote on timesandseasons.org. "He was concerned with those that struggled. I appreciated his words so much."
Wirthlin's final speech at the church's Semi-Annual General Conference, "Come What May, and Love It," urged Mormons to face adversity by learning to laugh, seeking the eternal, trust in God and expect justice in the heavens. Learning to endure times of disappointment, suffering and sorrow is part of our on-the-job training," Wirthlin told millions of Mormons across the world. "These experiences, while often difficult to bear at the time, are precisely the kinds of experiences that stretch our understanding, build our character, and increase our compassion for others."
The lessons of football: Back in 1936, "Speedy" Wirthlin played halfback for the University of Utah. With a slight build and medium height, he was light on his feet and an all-around good athlete. At East High School in Salt Lake City, he had played quarterback as well as competing in the 100-yard dash, low hurdles and basketball (he won the Intermountain Free Throw Contest). Wirthlin had to "run for his life," he joked with his family. But into his 70s, he could still outspring his son.
In 2004, Wirthlin's love of football created an instant connection with then U. football coach, Urban Meyer. The aging apostle went to nearly every U. home game, sitting behind Meyer's wife, Shelley, who high-fived him after each touchdown.
"The first time I did it, I almost knocked him down," Shelley Meyer said at the time.
The love of football continued to the end of his life.
Last month, he watched the U. decimate its rival Brigham Young University, an LDS Church-owned school. Was he happy with the outcome? "Absolutely," said his son.
For Wirthlin, football, and sports in general, have been sermon fodder and a subtext for his life. Success in sports is, after all, a lot about discipline. His coach, Ike Armstrong, told the Mormon athlete that the game required "not only football prowess, but also courage, duty, dependability, perseverance, integrity and enthusiasm, which resulted in physical, emotional, and even spiritual conditioning at the highest level," Wirthlin said in a 1978 speech. "The end product was to be nothing less than character of the most solid."
Growing into his calling: Wirthlin also learned such lessons as a young boy working in his father's wholesale meat business and grocery store. The store opened in 1917, the year of his birth, on the corner of 200 South and 800 East in Salt Lake City. During the Great Depression, he would pull his small red wagon, filled with food and clothing for the neighborhood's needy families.
The lessons of giving and sharing remained with him throughout his life, Wirthlin Jr. said. "He believed in hard work and that there was 'no free lunch.' He told us to be careful what we spent and living within our means, but he was always generous to others."
He maintained that same attitude during his career in the family business, even as he served as an LDS bishop and then stake president in the Bonneville Stake on the east side of Salt Lake City. Then one day in 1975, he got a phone call from church headquarters. When he returned to the office he shared with Wirthlin Jr., his son noticed something unusual in his father's demeanor.
Wirthlin had been called to full-time service with the LDS Church, as assistant to the Quorum of Twelve Apostles.
"Our life has changed," he told his son matter-of-factly.
Family man: Wirthlin met his future wife, Elisa Young Rogers, when he arrived for a date with her older sister. In a flash, he knew Elisa, a 5-foot-6 blond , blue-eyed beauty who opened the door, was the one for him. He had seen her in a vision while on his mission in Austria.
The two were married in 1941, after he had completed a business degree at the U. The couple maintained their love affair through 65 years, raising seven daughters and one son, and loving 59 grandchildren and 80-something great-grandchildren.
"They would look at each other and start to laugh," Wirthlin Jr. said. "You could see their love and interdependence."
The day Elisa Wirthlin died in August 2006 "was the most difficult day of Dad's life," the son said.
Though extremely busy with his responsibilities as an apostle, Wirthlin was an involved father and grandfather. "He never missed a single father-and-sons outing," Wirthlin Jr. recalled Tuesday. "There was not a day of life -- unless he was out of the country -- when I didn't talk to him."
That commitment to family remained strong throughout Wirthlin's three decades of service as an LDS apostle.
After 18 months as an assistant, he became a member of the First Quorum of Seventy where he served the church first as an area supervisor in Europe, then in the Southwest and the Caribbean, then in Brazil and finally, back to Europe.
In 1986, Wirthlin was named an apostle and became the first chairman of the church's new Humanitarian Service Committee, overseeing its global relief efforts. In 2001, Brigham Young University gave him an honorary doctorate for Christian service.
Those assignments "accentuated his natural empathy and compassion," Wirthlin Jr. said. "He saw firsthand that life is not always easy, but his constant message was to pick yourself up ®and carry on. Never quit."

Too Busy

We're too busy it seems

to take time for dreams
or to go for a walk in the sun.
Too busy today no time for play,
too busy just getting things done.
Too busy to sit and read awhile,
too busy for stories,

too busy to smile.
No time for old friends,

no time for the new.
Too busy thinking of things,

we must do.
Too busy; to watch the birds in flight,
too busy; to count the stars in the night,
too busy; to watch the children playing,
we don't hear, half the things
they're saying.
We're too busy, for picnics
when the weather is mild

or to share in the joys, of a little child.
Too busy, for all the simple things,
no time for the blessings, each day can bring.
When our life is finally through
and there's nothing worthwhile,
left to do.
Will our hearts be filled,
with misgivings
when we learn we've been Too busy,

for living.

A poem about Mother, dedicated to all the women that take up the walk of life, called motherhood.

Image
The First moment of Courage
Who will defend them?
The calling was extended,
without formalities;
long before the blood and labor.
when one day, the world would denounce
this berth as joyous, and that heated day was soon.
She struggled with remonstrance,
then came to and said,
“I defend this one.”
Peering at her, the advocates, callously asked,
“What has this object, to your favor?
“It has no strong limbs, no common denominator.”
She corrected the evil and said
“No, not an object, of any mere chance,
but a Being, divine.”
"It moves and its' heart beats and it has a free will, not of mine."
“I am protector; I've been assigned."
The angry voices stirred, hardly settled, like dust
They sneered with strange confidence

that cankered, like rust.
She stood against the powerful reigns and winds,
as they pulled and they pryed.
Clawed at her womb, mocking her diligent pride..
With her head held high,
she repeated to herself, as the women before
"I will save them, from these storms."
Then with all her courage, she did just that.
The multitudes jeered and they scoffed.
“Who are you, to carry that much power?”
She answered with conviction,

"I am called, Mother."
She said it so softly,
though, it fell like Thunder.
The bullies they shook, then divided asunder.

I love this recent talk from one of the 12 apostles, this October 2008 for the Womens' Relief Society Conference

Image

You wonderful sisters, render compassionate service to others for reasons that supersede desires for personal benefits. In this you emulate the Savior, who, though a king, did not seek position, nor was He concerned about whether others noticed Him. He did not bother to compete with others. His thoughts were always tuned to help others. He taught, healed, conversed, and listened to others. He knew that greatness had little to do with outward signs of prosperity or position. He taught and lived by this doctrine: “He that is greatest among you shall be your servant.”
In the end, the number of prayers we say may contribute to our happiness, but the number of prayers we answer may be of even greater importance. Let us open our eyes and see the heavy hearts, notice the loneliness and despair; let us feel the silent prayers of others around us, and let us be an instrument in the hands of the Lord to answer those prayers.

My dear sisters, I have a simple faith. I believe that as you are faithful and diligent in keeping the commandments of God, as you draw closer to Him in faith, hope, and charity, things will work together for your good. I believe that as you immerse yourselves in the work of our Father—as you create beauty and as you are compassionate to others—God will encircle you in the arms of His love. Discouragement, inadequacy, and weariness will give way to a life of meaning, grace, and fulfillment.
As spirit daughters of our Heavenly Father, happiness is your heritage.
You are choice daughters of our Heavenly Father, and through the things you create and by your compassionate service, you are a great power for good. You will make the world a better place. Lift up your chin; walk tall. God loves you. We love and admire you.
Of this I testify, and leave you my blessing as an Apostle of the Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Mom: "You were a ballerina last year, let's be something new and different this year, here we can buy the crown... Ruby... still wears a crown and wears a pink dress too."

(While mom argues with 3 yr old.Lana...... Tali the 1 year old, who so sweetly allowed mommy to put her rabbit costume on in the store... has stripped her bunny costume pieces, all over the store when mommy wasn't paying attention and dropped all the parts somewhere, never to be found together again.)

(Mom buys 2 bunny costumes ($15.00), half reluctantly anyway...Determined to try later Afterall, she blogged her great idea for Halloween costumes already. There would need to be pictures of this duo Max & Ruby right?)

1 week later: Mom could care zilch, what her children wear on Halloween.
(Mom returns both bunny costumes after countless times; unsuccessfully trying , to catch running and laughing children to try on costumes at home. attempts: 2 many)

Lana while running from mom and the costume: "Pleeeeese let me wear my ballerina.... mommy please.....pLEEEEASe and mommy..and
I pwomiz... U can be Wuby (Ruby), mommy and.... you can be Max too.....!!! "

(mommy stops and laughs at Lana...LOL)

Mom: thinks to herself...."I guess that sounds about right."

Halloween Costumes

Well I am always up for adventure for Halloween costumes. I am going to attempt to transform my two girls, into white rabbits for Halloween; Oh ...not just any white rabbits but MAX & RUBY wabbits! It's one of our fave cartoons on Noggin. Leilana, will be perfect as Ruby and Tali will make a great Max. They kinda fit the parts....Ruby AKA:Lana, is the older sibling and a Miss. Know it all 2..... loves dressing up in pink princess dresses and jewelryImage
and Max AKA: Tali, is an adventurous sneaky but adorably precocious... one worded little baby. I am so excited I already bought some cheap white fur-like material @ 2 bucks a yard.....Can't beat that...Now how to assemble? Hhmmmm let's see, can't sew worth anything...I think the hot glue gun sounds pretty valuable for this project......!

AAMCO THE COMPLETE CAR CARE DUMMIES

Image
If the AAMCO mechanic "Tony" was a monster he would probably look like this...

AAMCO has just plain LIED and CHEATED us twice. We were foolish enough to give them the benefit of the doubt the second time. We took our car in the first time to get a tune up they sent us to another AAMCO claiming they couldn't do the tune up at that time but had a specialist at another address. The next place they sent us to after we said again, we need a TUNEUP....they looked at the car and said because their diagnostic machine was not working that had to take the car apart to check it and then when they took all morning to do that..they told my husband HE needed a tune-up ....what? a TUNEUP?....HELLO we told him that before he took it apart, so they charged 100.oo something for the taking it apart and we never got a tuneup.
I guess we are foolish for forgiving them and we took our car later to get the AC looked at and freon added. It was kinda working but off and on, Tony said there was no leaks but that they added Freon and did a A/C Dye and said it should be working now.. AFTER spending $309.39, we took it home and nothing appeared much different, it had the same problems...so we asked them to check it again after a few days....they nice..ly said bring it in. We waited another long day for them to tell us our A/C had to be rebuilt and that it wouldn't last long and had major problems but that they filled it back up with freon for free? We took it home and immediately noticed the A/C only blew warm air. I called TONY back up and asked what exactly did you do for me? If my A/C was in bad condition why didn't you tell me that the first time we brought it in instead of charging us for a... non-fix. He said blah blah blah...and that he did put freon in. We took it to another PHX local mexican guy who had a reputation for doing good work on A/C ...he checked the car said yeah nothing is wrong with your a/c fan, no leaks but just no freon...WELL>>>AAMCO WHERE IS THE BLASTED FREON YOU MADE US PAY $309.39 for..hey every penny counts..We took it home from the nice honest mexican mechanic and it worked...All we wanted was a TUNE-up and Freon and AAMCO SCREWED US OVER......We will no longer affiliate with anybody from the AAMCO Company.. Tony seemed nice at first... but obviously he lied through the skin of his scaly teeth.
