Washington DC Trip - Day 4

Here's what we did on day 4 of our Washington D.C. trip.

THE AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM
We showed up right as the museum was about to open.

There were lots of cool things to see an play with.

We found this guy.  Col. Paul Henderson.  Who was apparently an aviation pioneer.  We'll have to figure out if we're related.

They had a paper airplane making contest.  Afterward, they all did a test flight for their airplanes.  Tommy ended up winning a book on the history of Boeing planes for taking first place.

My favorite was probably the big model aircraft carrier.
It was almost 10 feet long.

 After lunch, we walked back past the capitol building.

Then we saw some cool stuff at the art museum.

Washington DC Trip - Day 3

So I have a few seconds, so we'll see if we can post pictures of day 3 of our DC trip which we went on back in April.
We started the morning with a long walk around the area where all the monuments are located.
The first monument we hit was the Jefferson Memorial.

There were a few cherry blossoms left that survived the storm earlier in the week.

Here we are at the Jefferson Memorial.  It was super cold that day.  Thankfully the sun was out.  It got warmer as the day went on, but you can tell in some of these pictures that it was a bit chilly.

We then walked over to the FDR memorial.  We saw a few more surviving cherry blossoms.

We stopped by the Korean War Memorial.  My grandfather fought in the Korean war.  He has always been a good example to me.

 This is hard to see, but it is a picture of the wall next to the Korean War Memorial.  It has pictures of faces to represent soldiers who fought in the war.  The wall also has names, similar to the Vietnam memorial.

 Here we are a the Lincoln memorial.  This was one of my favorites.

This is looking back at the Lincoln memorial from the World War II memorial at the other end of the reflecting pool.

This is about as close to the white house as we got.  We didn't get tickets to go on a tour there.

After seeing the monuments, we went to Alexandria, which is near D.C.  It is an old part of town with boat docks and cool old houses and cobblestone roads (in some places).

There is a trolley there that we got to ride.  It was fun.

We got to see the outside of the Masonic Temple.  It was a fun looking building.
