Research
UCL academics are helping to shape globally-significant research in everything from number theory, analysis and geometry, to modelling, numerical analysis and financial mathematics.
Welcome to one of the world’s most influential and interesting places to study and research mathematics. UCL Mathematics has been a leading name in mathematical teaching and research since 1826. Today, the department is home to more than 1,000 students and 70 staff, all working together to explore and push the boundaries of mathematical knowledge, for the benefit of industry and society.

Our awards and recognition
Athena Swan Silver Award
The Department of Mathematics has a Silver Athena SWAN award which was awarded in April 2021 and is valid until April 2026.
LMS Good Practice Scheme
The LMS Good Practice Scheme helps maths departments improve diversity in higher education and share good practice across the sector.
Advanced Mathematics Support Programme
A DfE-funded initiative, providing support for teachers and students in state-funded schools and colleges in England.
Green Impact Silver Award 2021-22
The Green Impact scheme is a sustainability programme for UCL faculties and departments. Teams work through an online toolkit to complete sustainability actions and achieve an award.
