ENERGY AND CLIMATE CURRICULUM SUPPORT

Work with a VEEP/NHEEP educator to bring quality, hands-on science and engineering to your students.  We are flexible and can help with any option you need: we can lead workshops with your students; help guide you through using our kits, curricula, and lessons yourself; and support you in taking action.

“The excitement to be touching and doing was so wonderful. Students aha moments made all the prep for these days worth it.  We feel like it brought all of our learning in our unit to life for them to be able to see how things worked by doing.” – from a teacher discussing an in-class workshop

Community Workshops

“VEEP/NHEEP is just not an organization that is working to support the students’ learning but it is the most effective vehicle to connect learning to the real world! Students benefit from hand-on inquiry and are able to extend their learning.” –A teacher partnering with us

“I loved how many different technologies were available for students and how everything applied to their own lives.” – A teacher discussing our workshops

“VEEP is an amazing partner. They educate and empower students to believe they can take action to help make our world a better place.”

A teacher working with our educators

“Many of our students have heard of “climate change” but did not know much about renewable resources or what is causing the warming of our planet. This was a great introduction and lead to them having more questions and a dialogue that can be carried throughout our year.” – A teacher after a Modeling Climate Science workshop

“My students loved the workshop. We loved the Energy Bike- I heard from other teachers in school that students have been talking about how much energy it takes for incandescent bulbs to light than LED.” – A teacher after an Electricity & the Environment workshop

“During the lesson I watched all students being engaged and even heard some say how they appreciated all of the set up and hands-on learning that took place!” – A teacher after a workshop

“My students have been reminding their classmates when they are wasting energy (keeping the water at the sink on for too long and turning off the classroom lights when we leave the room). Many students are also reminding their parents at home as well. They loved the workshop!!”

“When we reached the end of the unit I overheard two kids talking: “This is the hardest I’ve tried on anything this year.” “Well, that’s because this is fun!”” – A teacher after using a curriculum kit in their classroom

“The experiment set-up and materials are excellent.” – A teacher regarding our kits

“Angie brought a great amount of energy and patience to our first graders. They were engaged from the very beginning and excited to learn about different ways they could have a positive impact on our environment.” – A NH teacher

“The in person workshop is great. It engages the students in critical thinking and does not just “tell them” what to do.”

“Keep offering the kits! They are a great resource.” – from a VT teacher

“I liked all of it- good intro with the videos, we had 5 lab stations set up with various tasks to learn about renewable energy, saving electricity, and home construction design- the 75 min. block was just enough time!” – A teacher regarding our workshops

“The simplicity of presentation was key. It enabled students at all levels to engage successfully.” – A teacher talking about our workshops

“The teaching partnerships are fantastic. It’s great to have access to the equipment, but even better to have another educator visit and observe and learn from them.” – A NH teacher

“The in-person workshop is great. It engages the students in critical thinking and does not just “tell them” what to do.”

“My class was fully engaged! Even students who usually struggle participated in some way.” – A VT teacher

“Seeing VEEP at work this year providing all ages of Vermonters in settings around the state – schools, libraries, community events, the State House – with hands-on insights into better building performance and improved energy options has been inspiring. Confusion is widespread about our energy system and we desperately need tangible stories and examples to bring complicated policies and technology down to a practical, actionable level.” – VT State Representative Dara Torre

“My students loved all of the hands-on activities that allowed them to discover their own conclusions about energy prior to debrief conversations. It was really engaging and meaningful.” – A NH teacher

“I love that we can rent the kits so we don’t have to purchase/store the materials. I love how flexible Angie has been over the years as we have tweaked and then completely changed our final project.” – A NH teacher

“The content and presentation is engaging and grade level appropriate all while addressing NGSS. There was a variety of listening to content, keeping track of data and hands on activities followed by using everyday items (in this case toys) at the end of the lesson.” – A VT teacher

“I liked that most were accessible to students with learning disabilities.” – a VT teacher describing a workshop

“I really liked that the stations students circulated around had an open-ended aspect to them. They were intentionally light on directions so that students could approach the station with curiosity rather than knowing they just had to read and repeat.” – A teacher in NH

“I loved having all of the different stations. It is so engaging for middle schoolers to learn this way but at the same time it is a lot for me to single handedly set up and manage. This was perfect.” – A Vermont teacher after a workshop

“The hand power generators were super cool too, I learned that when you flipped the bar up some of them turned on but when the bar was all connected they all lit up.” – A NH 5th grader

“Thanks to you I learned a lot about electricity and how it impacts the environment. My favorite part was making the light bulbs light up.” – a NH 5th grader

“Thank you for making science day amazing. I loved the “hand-cranking” station. I learned that LED lights use less energy.”  – A NH 5th grader

“I learned way more than I thought I would. It was cool at the stations where we had to figure stuff out and see what electricity thing waste the most electricity and which didn’t.” – NH 4th grader

“I don’t want to go to lunch, I just want to science!” – A NH 7th grader
