Pokemon Battle Dimension – 30 Jul 2009

The first recording today is Pokemon Battle DimensionLosing Its Lustrous.

After Dawn’s win at the contest in the last episode, Ash has thought of ways to beat Fantina’s ghost-type Pokémon moves, and demonstrates them to Dawn and Brock with Buizel.

Image

There’s a news report about the theft of something called the Adamant Orb by Team Galactic.

Image

The Adamant Orb is apparently paired with something called the Lustrous Orb, which is being studied in Celestic Town, where they currently are. Naturally, Team Rocket are interested in this news, and plan to steal the Lustrous Orb before Team Galactic.

Image

At the historical research centre, they meet an old friend, Cynthia, and her Grandmother, Carolina, who are working on researching the Lustrous Orb.

Image

They also meet Cyrus. “You see, Cyrus is responsible for building and library construction throughout Sinnoh.” So he’s a big businessman, and probably working with Team Galactic, as we see them getting ready to attack the centre.

Image

Looking at the records in the Historical Centre, Dawn and Ash are surprised to recognised two creatures that they glimpsed at different lakes. Cynthia thinks these might be the Lake Guardians, Mesprit and Azelf. Naturally, given the image, there’s a third Lake Guardian, Uxie.

Image

Cyrus suggests that Carolina show the Lustrous Orb so they’re taken down to where it’s kept. But nobody recognises Team Rocket, who have posed as guards, despite Meowth being right there.

Image

Ash and Dawn look at the orb, but they don’t get any particular feeling about it. Cyrus gets cross at them. “Sorry, but when I’m standing in front of this treasure, it’s so hard to try and be calm. You see, the lustrous orb is supposed to be directly connected to the dawn of time.”

While he’s monologuing, Team Galactic set off explosives around the ruins above .

Image

Cynthia asks everyone to help protect the Lustrous Orb from Team Galactic. As they’re transporting it, Crogunk, who has been acting distracted all episode, emerges from his Pokeball without being summoned. Brock leaves the rest to follow him.

Image

Team Galactic intercept the rest of them as they try to leave the Centre, and warn them that “The truth is, Bronzor put all of your security forces outside this facility to sleep. And right about now, Toxicroak should be taking good care of everyone on the inside.”

Image

Then Crogunk crashes through the skylight, followed by Toxicroak, who knocks him out. The episode ends with a cliffhanger.

Image

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. He travels through the Sinnoh region, where he is challenged in a number of thrilling battles, and strikes up a friendship with a novice trainer named Dawn.

The second recording today doesn’t seem to be suffering the glitching that yesterday’s had. It’s Pokemon Battle DimensionDrifloon on the Wind!

Ash, Dawn and Brock arrive at a Pokemon Centre, and are surprised when some Gastly fly out as they open the door.

Image

A little girl thinks they’re there to steal her food, and she attacks Ash with a broom. Then Nurse Joy walks in, and they learn that the little girl is her daughter. Brock is bereft to learn that Nurse Joy is married.

Image

The young girl is Paige. and she’s a lot friendlier when she knows they aren’t thieves. Ash even helps her deliver food to the forest Pokemon.

Image

Paige’s older sister Marnie has to deliver her father’s lunch to him as he forgot to take it.

Image

Team Rocket steal his Ampharos. But Marnie’s father tells Ampharos to use Thunder which blasts off Team Rocket. But it also damages the overhead power lines.

Image

The power goes out at the Pokemon Centre. Nurse Joy rides off to the power plant. Paige wants to go too and runs off to use a Drifloon to fly there. Pikachu tries to stop her but can’t, and the wind is picking up.

Image

The power plant is fixed. But when Ash and friends arrive, Paige is nowhere to be seen so they have to try to find where she’s been taken by the Drifloon.

Image

Ash borrows Marnie’s Drifloon to follow the wind and look for Paige.

Image

He manages to find Paige up in the mountains.

Image

Paige’s mum and dad are driving through the mountains but find the road is blocked. They decide to walk on foot, and Brock and Dawn go with them, but Marnie runs off. She makes her way to the lake, where she calls for Paige’s secret friend, a legendary Pokemon called Suicune.

Image

Ash, Paige and Pikachu have to cross a very precarious crossing.

Image

But the trunk splinters as they’re reaching the end, and they fall.

Image

Marnie and Suicune arrive just in time to save them.

Image

The family find them and all is well.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 29 Jul 2009

The first recording today is Pokemon Battle DimensionBattling the Generation Gap.

Dawn is competing in the Celestic Town contest, and she’s having trouble getting her costume done. Lila, a very famous Poke Stylist happens past and quickly fixes her hair. Earlier that day, Dawn and Brock had visited her shop, but she wasn’t there, and many years ago, she beat Dawn’s mother in her last competitive Pokemon match.

Image

Everyone’s surprised when Lila steps out as the first competitor in the competition, her first for twenty years.

Image

Jessie is there too, as Jessilina.

Image

Dawn performs with Buneary, and it’s going well until Buneary slightly goes out of control in a spin.

Image

But Dawn catches it, and styles it out. “Smile and pose!”

Image

After the performance, Dawn finds Lila talking to her mother, so she goes and talks to her. Lila tells her that after she battled Dawn’s mum, she came to realise that rather than be a coordinator, what she really wanted to be was a Poke Stylist, so she went to train for that, while Dawn’s mother went on to be a coordinator.

Image

Both Dawn and Lila win through to the next round. Jessie didn’t make it.

Image

Dawn and Lila end up in the final, and first it’s Ambipom vs Delcatty.

Image

Delcatty uses her cute charm and puts Ambipom to sleep.

Image

But after more fighting, it’s Dawn that finally wins the battle.

Image

Lila is happy for Dawn.

Image

Dawn wins the ribbon.

Image

Lila even lets the friends pick out something from her shop. I do like these wholesome episodes.

There is a second recording today, but it looks like the first ten minutes of the recording are a total glitchfest, so I’m afraid you’ll miss a recap of that. The episode is Pokemon Battle DimensionSettling a Not-So-Old Score!

As I say, a lot of this doesn’t really play properly, but apparently Dawn wins her competition.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 28 Jul 2009

The first recording today is Pokemon Battle DimensionDoc Brock.

Dawn and Ash are washing their Pokemon. Ash surprises Pachirisu with water that’s too cold.

Image

In Brock’s absence, Dawn makes pancakes.

Image

Pachirisu gets a fever.

Image

Ash sends Staravia to fetch Brock, who knows how to deal with these things, but on the way he’s hit by a sticky goop shot by Team Rocket.

Image

When it’s taking a long time for Brock to return from his shopping trip, they send out Gliscor to bring him.

Image

Brock gets back and diagnoses Pachirisu with a build-up of electricity, which he relieves, making Pachirisu’s fever subside.

Image

Brock also shows them where to find orenberries, and they make up a fruit paste to help Pachirisu recover.

Image

Staravia is still struggling with the goop, when a friendly Whooper helps it get clean.

Image

Just as Pachirisu is recovering, Team Rocket grab it.

Image

Staravia arrives in time to help, and blows the bazooka gunk back at them.

Image

Buneary uses ice beam and dizzy punch.

Image

And Pachirisu sends them packing with discharge.

Image

There’s a second recording today, and it’s Pokemon Battle DimensionGetting the Pre-Contest Titters! Another from the earlier Diamond and Pearl series.

Ash and Dawn are training for Dawn’s contest, and helping Pachirisu hone his electric powers.

Image

Dawn gives them a poffin to eat to congratulate them on a good display, but when she tells them she won’t give them more until they’ve practiced more, it zaps them all. Pikachu has to zap it to stop it.

Image

Dawn meets an old friend of hers, Kenny, who’s also there for the contest.

Image

He shows her his pokemon he’s had since Dawn last met him – Prinplup, an evolved form of Piplup.

Image

Prinplup doesn’t seem to get on with Piplup.

Image

Kenny starts telling them stories about things Dawn did when they were very small, which naturally embarrasses her.

Image

James and Meowth try to capture Prinplup for Jessie to use in her contest.

Image

Piplup uses Whirlpool for the first time to free Prinplup.

Image

Then Piplup and Prinplup use Bubblebeam together to see off Team Rocket.

Image

Later at the contes, Dawn goes first with Pachirisu who, after a good start, has a bit of a problem, but the episode ends with Dawn apparently remembering something important, so it’s a cliffhanger.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 27 Jul 2009

The first recording today starts with the end of an episode of SamSam.

Then it’s Pokemon Battle DimensionPlaying the Levelling Field.

Ash and friends come across their friend Zoey, who’s in the middle of a battle with a top French Pokemon coordinator, Fantina.

Image

Her Mismagius beats Zoey’s Glameow.

Image

Team Rocket watch, and Jessie poses as a reporter wanting to interview Fantina, but really wanting to steal all her training secrets. Nobody recognises her, as usual.

Image

Fantina ignores her request, but tells Ash and friends all about how she’s training. Ash asks if he can battle her, which she agrees to. Her first Pokemon is a Drifloon.

Image

Buizel fights back. But he gets defeated.

Image

Next, Chimchar takes on Drifloon. He also gets beaten.

Image

Pikachu is the last to try, and he struggles against Drifloon’s Ominous Wind.

Image

He attacks with a strong Thunderbolt, but that causes Drifloon to evolve into Drifblim. And using Hypnosis, it puts Pikachu to sleep.

Image

This only makes Ash want to try again at Hearthome gym, and Fantina accepts his challenge.

Image

Jessie shows Yanmega some of the moves, hoping it will learn them, despite being the wrong type to do them.

Image

Ash also reviews the battle, hoping to find something to counter the Hypnosis move Fantina’s Pokemon used.

In a shake-up of the routine today, there’s a second recording, but don’t get too excited, as it’s another episode of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl – Oh Do You Know The Poffin Plan! This is a different series, from before the episodes we’ve so far been watching.

Ash is cooking.

Image

This episode is presented with its title sequence intact, but it’s a shame this season’s theme song isn’t quite the banger that Battle Dimension is.

Image

There’s a strange Ninja Pokemon that we first see attacking Team Rocket as they forage for berries.

Image

I’ve no idea what the short bit with Ash cooking at the start of the episode was about, because when we next meet him, he and Dawn and Brock have arrived in Floaroma Town for a Pokemon contest.

Image

An old lady tells them how the town used to be a barren wasteland. “But legend has it that one day, a beautiful woman climbed to the top of the hill to give thanks for nature’s great beauty. And with that, it was like the flowers and trees couldn’t wait to break through the earth and join forces with the woman to express their thanks as well.”

Image

Dawn suggests that while they’re there, they also take a Poffin cooking class. So I guess the scene at the start was just a preview.

Image

They meet Forsythia, who runs the cooking classes.

Image

Ash’s first attempt is a failure.

Image

Team Rocket think they can make a fortune with Poffins.

Image

Forsythia has a Pokemon called Roserade who appears to be scared of everyone.

Image

Team Rocket appear with a machine that’s stealing all the berries.

Image

There’s a big fight.

Image

But it takes the Roserade dressing in a ninja scarf to really scare Team Rocket.

Image

Meowth tries to get the scarf off.

Image

He succeeds, and they also grab a depowered Roserade before they start leaving.

Image

But Forsythia tells Roserade that it doesn’t need the scarf to be powerful, and together, all the Pokemon stop Team Rocket escaping with the berries.

Image

Roserade uses its powers to regrow the destroyed berry fields.

Image

Dawn’s new recipe for Poffins is much more to her Pokemons’ taste.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 24 Jul 2009

Today’s recording doesn’t actually start in the middle of the episode. In actual fact, we get a minute or so of the previous programme. Which is whatever this is.

Image

(An image search tells me it’s a show called SamSam which I have never heard of.)

Then we immediately go into Pokemon Battle DimensionA Lean Mean Team Rocket Machine.

The first crime is that these broadcasts don’t seem to play the titles, so we’re robbed of the chance to listen to the banger of a theme tune for these episodes. What’s strange is that this theme is so familiar to me, so I’m surprised none of these recordings have included it. My kids must have watched enough episodes which included the theme song, so I can only assume those were on streaming.

Piplup is training with dawn when he unexpectedly collapses.

Image

They take him to Nurse Joy who suggests Piplup is just exhausted, after overdoing things.

Image

Team Rocket go for a succulent Chinese meal, and immediately put on a huge amount of weight.

Image

So they resolve to get fit again.

Image

They start exercising.

Image

Must be a great exercise plan, because pretty soon they’re back to their normal weights.

Image

They break into the Pokemon centre where Piplup is being treated, and start stealing Pokeballs.

Image

Piplup wakes up when he hears them, and raises the alarm.

Image

Ash and friends discover the theft of Pokeballs, and rush out to stop Team Rocket.

Image

Team Rocket transform their car into a robot.

Image

Piplup uses Bubblebeam (of course) to blind Team Rocket while Pikachu uses Iron tail to get back the Pokeballs.

Image

Then Pikachu attacks and blows up the robot, sending Team Rocket flying.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 23 Jul 2009

Today’s recording is Pokemon Battle DimensionOne Team, Two Team, Red Team, Blue Team.

It’s the last event at the Summer Academy, the Pokemon Triathlon. Ash and Angie still seem to be bitter rivals despite them also being firm friends.

Image

Conway is back to his creepy self despite having been brainwashed by the scary ghost girl in the last episode.

Image

They all have to use a random Pokemon, and Jessie doesn’t like her Hippowdon.

Image

The others have a varied mixture.

Image

Some of the younger trainers have a bit of a pile-up.

Image

They have to swap for water types to cross a lake.

Image

Jessie gets a Magicarp. She’s not happy about that, either.

Image

After Jessie illegally uses Seviper to fight in a cave, Angie and Shinks fall down a hole, and Ash has to save them again.

Image

Conway and Jessie are in front, but they haven’t paced themselves, and they are exhausted approaching the finish line.

Image

So Ash and Angie overtake them, and Ash takes first place.

Image

Somehow, Jessie has made a lot of friends among the younger students, and they say goodbye.

Image

Ash and Angie say goodbye, leaving as friends.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 22 Jul 2009

Today’s recording is Pokemon Battle DimensionGhoul Daze.

The class have to climb to Summit Ruins where they will encounter a ghost-type pokemon. Ash and Angie team up.

Image

Brock and a shy young boy called Mitchell team up.

Image

Dawn is slightly less happy with her partner Kendall. “Weird. That feeling. A feeling like something really gross is standing right behind me.” “Hey there, Dawn.” “Hi, Kendall.”

Image

Conway’s partner seems a little… cursed, and has flashing purple eyes. I’ve seen enough Japanese horror films to know it’s not a great choice but he doesn’t appear to have free will any more.

Image

Pikachu spots some Ghost Pokemon, and zaps them, so Ash apologises to them on his behalf.

Image

Brock appeases the Ghost Pokemon with some of his food.

Image

Kendall’s quite a coward.

Image

Conway is almost led off a cliff by the scary child.

Image

He’s saved by a Dusknoir.

Image

Meowth pretends to be a ghost pokemon, but he’s chased by some actual ghost pokemon.

Image

He falls over and Jessie finds him. She thinks the Dusknoir must have attacked him.

Image

Dusknoir scares Brock, and then sees the scary girl, whom it seems to recognise. She vanishes.

Image

Ash and Angie reach the Summit Ruins, but they’re frightened by a Misdreavous.

Image

They run away, and then they encounter the scary girl, who signals them to go in a particular direction.

Image

Back at the academy, Professor Rowan is told of the Dusknoir, and the theory that he’s taken the spirit of the scary little girl to the spirit world. “We discovered a cave deep within a stone wall, and there are some who think it might be the legendary entrance to the spirit world.”

Image

The girl leads Ash and Angie to where the Summit Ruins medals are.

Image

Then the little girl beckons them into a hole in the wall, possibly the one Professor Rowan was talking about.

Image

Dusknoir arrives, and tries to stop them. Pikachu and Shinks attack and stun it.

Image

Then the little girl ask them to follow her.

Image

Angie is almost dragged in.

Image

Professor Rowan and staff and students arrive to see what’s happening (and reiterate the plot in case we weren’t paying attention earlier).

Image

Dusknoir wakes up and stops Ash and Angie being dragged into the spirit world. He zaps the creepy girl, who vanishes, and the entrance is blocked by a rockfall.

Image

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 21 Jul 2009

Today’s recording is Pokemon Battle DimensionUp Close and Personal.

Today, everyone has to study water-type pokemon and write a report about them

Image

They go swimming to observe them better.

Image

But there’s a mystery when Angie’s Shinx goes missing, after a strange light shines from the forest. They follow the light to a cave.

Image

They discover the source of the light – a Lumineon. As Conway explains, “Lumineon lives in the ocean’s depths. It lures Pokémon by flashing light in the pattern of its tail fins.”

Image

Angie finds her Shinx.

Image

Jessie comes and tries to get the Lumineon as her pokemon, despite them all having been told that they’re not allowed to capture any.

Image

Conway fights her off with his Slowking.

Image

Ash and Buizel look for the Lumineon, but only find a tunnel that they surmise must lead to the ocean.

Image

When they wonder why the Lumineon comes to the cave, Brock shows them a type of seaweed that’s a favourite of water-type pokemon.

Image

All this makes a fascinating report for their class. They all get ten marks. But then they have four marks deducted for going too far from the lake, which seems unduly harsh given they were searching for their pokemon. School sucks.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 20 Jul 2009

Today’s recording is Pokemon Battle DimensionCamping It Up, and because it looks like the CITV schedule has changed, this recording captures an episode title card for the first time.

Image

It’s still missing the opening scene where our heroes rock up at Professor Rowan’s Pokemon Summer School, but at least we see them meeting the other kids there, including Carlton, who they seem to know already, and who you can tell is slightly villain coded by the way he holds his glasses.

Image

Jessie’s there, as Jesselinda. Nobody recognises her, again. These people who can recognise every type of Pokemon there is.

Image

Ash strikes up a random rivalry with a girl called Angie, and is a bit of a dick at first, which seems a bit out of character.

Image

They all pick a random Pokeball and have to work with the Pokemon inside. Angie gets a Monferno.

Image

Ash gets a Raichu.

Image

Dawn gets a Grimer.

Image

Brock gets a Magnemite.

Image

Jessie gets a Smoochum.

Image

It wouldn’t be summer camp without an after-lights-out card game.

Image

There’s various battles.

Image

Dawn wins an award for the most developed connection with her Pokemon, Grimer.

Image

But overall, the blue team comes last on the first day.

Image

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 17 Jul 2009

Today’s recording is Pokemon Battle DimensionThe Psyduck Stops Here. The original Media Centre metadata called them Payduck which was confusing.

The friends are having trouble with three Psyduck who are guarding the way through a canyon and won’t let anyone through.

Image

Team Rocket try negotiating, but they’re hurled into the air as usual.

Image

Even Swinub fails to get past the Psyduck powers.

Image

Ash has a plan, and to distract the Psyduck while he prepares, Brock dresses like this.

Image

Ash uses Gliscor to glide, and Staravia to provide the wind needed.

Image

Ash gets past the Psyduck and finds a lot of other Psyduck, lots of them with eggs, obviously the reason the other Psyduck weren’t letting people through.

Image

Team Rocket return, and try to capture the guarding Psyduck. They are defeated by the other pokemon.

When they get to the lake where the other Psyduck are staying, they see the eggs hatching into baby Psyduck. Psyducklings, if you will.

Brock makes some food for the little Psyducklings.

They wonder why all these Psyduck are staying around such a small lake, then they check the map and see that Psyduck lake is a little further along, so they check it out and find it’s infested with Muk.

After another big fight, the Muk are ejected from the lake, and land far away in another lake, where they find some Lady Muks and true love.

So now everyone’s happy.
