whos this shithead.
Oct. 8th, 2015 04:43 pmCheerful and easy-going seems to be Vinka's default. He's quick to make jokes and is good company for a card game - mostly because he bets big and isn't sore about losing. But he also spends a lot of time watching and listening and taking careful note of just about everything that happens on board the Typhani. While Berrick is in charge of the business, Vinka definitely takes account of the ship and its crew; because he isn't the captain and doesn't have to make navigation calls or do boring paperwork, he has the luxury of trawling and can be found anywhere and everywhere. Additional note: Vinka's species has a reputation for cold-blooded ruthlessness, but that's probably just some casual space racism. Probably.( FOR MORE INFORMATION THAN YOU EVER WANTED, CLICK HERE )
Vinka considers his job to be getting to know people and making sure the crew is capable of minimal interpersonal efficiency. He's interested in knowing about you, and asking questions, getting answers, and sometimes poking through your things. He wants everyone on the Typhani to feel like family, he says, while cheerfully failing to mention that his species has been known to eat their young.
His conception of family may be a bit... different.
Being Hrrath, Vinka comes from a society that values kindness and courtesy... on the surface. You ask kind and courteous, even when they don't mean it. For example, Vinka himself is very flirtatious, but won't actually sleep with any of the crew because it's unprofessional (and because people with only two eyes and no head-tails are kind of fucking ugly).
This is the sort of thing that has given the Hrrath a reputation for being two-faced-- well, that and the proliferation of bloody wars they've been in over the last few hundred years. And also how written agreements work differently in Hrrath society. Look, it's very complicated, especially for ape-descended lifeforms.
Still, if you can get Vinka to verbally promise you something, it will always happen. A Hrrath's word is as good as gold, if you can get it. And if it gains people's trust on this bucket of bolts, Vinka will give his word for quite a few things.
