Hey all!

If you've posted your VividCon vid(s) from this year on Tumblr and we haven't liked it yet, that means we were not able to see it under any of the vividcon tags and it's not in our queue. If you want us to reblog, please PM me here (or VividCon on Twitter/Tumblr) with a link. If you don't have Tumblr but have an embed you'd like us to post on Tumblr ourselves (with credit, of course!), we're happy to do that as well.

Thanks!

As promised, here is more or less what we talked about at our panel last Saturday.

FYI for those who weren't there, audience members represented a range of experiences: Many had made multifandom vids, some hadn't but said they want to, some were just interested in the discussion. I (bironic) started to think of our panel as part demystification and part group-therapy session. :)

Introduction )

What we've learned about finding & choosing sources )

Managing information )

Structure & flow )

Integrating different formats )

Staying motivated )

Telling your story )

Q&A )

We also heard from people about projects they're working on or want to start, with encouragement and advice.

Several other comments have been incorporated above. If you remember what else was asked/said during the discussion, please remind us! [personal profile] anoel and [profile] cherryice definitely shared non-spreadsheet organization methods. anoel's may have been about writing short notes about each clip in a text file and then deleting them as she places the clips on the timeline.

If you want to contribute your own thoughts or otherwise continue the conversation, by all means! Sorry to those who asked in the lead-up to the panel about multi-editor projects and changes in multividding over time - we didn't feel our experiences positioned us well to speak to those topics.

Welcome to VividCon week!! \o/

We wanted to provide some information on how to find the hotel shuttle if you're arriving at O'Hare.

If you're flying into O'Hare, the shuttle is green and white, and picks up at door 2 at the top and bottom of the hour (eg. 1:00 and 1:30). If you're flying into the international airport, please call the hotel once you arrive so they know to come get you (if you need assistance with this, please contact me by commenting here/messaging me ASAP, or DM me on twitter @elipie).

Lastly, if you're on Twitter, make sure to tag #VividCon, #vvc, or @VividCon in your tweets so we can retweet and interact with you! If you post your premiering vids on Tumblr, make sure to tag #VividCon there as well so we can reblog all the vids once the con is over.

We can't wait to see you! Please comment here or tweet @VividCon if you have questions about getting to the con (or anything else about this weekend), and we will do our best to get back to you ASAP.

Since I'm getting into Chicago early Thursday afternoon, I was thinking of going to one of the Divvy bike sharing hubs and checking out a bike to do a little exploring. I'd be happy for company- let me know if you're interested in joining me.

Hi everyone!

[personal profile] scribe, [personal profile] bironic, and I are excited to be talking with you all about multisource/multifandom vidding during our panel on Saturday afternoon of the con! We wanted to find out what people would like to discuss/hear about to make sure it's an engaging 45 minutes.

What kinds of topics would you like to see covered during the "What We've Learned: Multisource" panel?

Some things we've considered so far to spark your thoughts, though please don't feel limited by them:

- what makes a good vid thesis for multisource vids
- how we choose & obtain sources
- working with unfamiliar sources
- figuring out structure
- integrating different media (e.g. live-action, animated, stills, etc)
- vids and vidders we have learned from

Also, let us know if there are any of our vids that you'd like to know more about, OR any other multi vids you might want to discuss if they're available.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments! Also feel free to DM any of us on dreamwidth (or twitter, if you know us there).

Hey, kids. VividCon 2018 DVDs will be going into production on 7/31, at which point there will be a finite supply of those DVD sets in the universe based on the quantity we need to fulfill existing orders.

This means that Tuesday, July 31st is your last day to purchase a < a href="http://vividcon.com/registration/">Supporting membership with DVD or to order extra DVDs if you are an Attending member.

Streaming supporting memberships will continue to be available until the eve of the con.

Thanks!

The first vidshow of the last VividCon starts in 28 days, 19 hours and some number of minutes and I can't believe I am typing that. I have a lot of feelings.

The icon stickers never showed up last year due to poor planning and travel drama (I made it to the con with ten minutes to spare juuuuust in time to see my lovely auction vid play on screen) but I still think of them as one of VividCon's fun traditions, so let's do this!

You can request one or two of your journal / twitter / tumblr user-icons and I will print them out as stickers for you to decorate your badge. It is fun but also helps other people to identify you and can also be a conversation-starter.

If you have a dreamwidth account, it easiest for me if you comment here with your user icon. Feel free to do just use the icon you want as the user-pic in the comment, although embedding and hyper-linking is also fine.

If you can't easily comment here, you can @me or DM me on twitter @par_avion, or email me at paravio@gmail.com (there is no n, someone beat me to it!)

PokemonGo players! Pokemon trading in the game is finally live, but heavily restricted by distance. What luck that we'll all be in the same hotel next month!

A bit of planning ahead can help. Trade stardust costs start super high and go down as you and your trade partner exchange more in-game gifts and get to be better in-game friends. You can trade without exchanging any in-game gifts at all, that's totally up to you, but be aware that this will limit the types of pokemon you can trade.

Anyone who's looking to trade can leave a comment here with the pokemon they're looking for or the ones they have to trade away. Add your trainer code if you're interesting in having more in-game friends.

...not literally. Sorry.

We have a record number of people volunteering to help with this year's con, which is fantastic! We're so grateful to everyone who comes together to participate in and make this con, and especially now for the finale.

I've written to all volunteers to describe the help we're looking for this year. If you offered to help when you registered, you should receive my email shortly! If it doesn't arrive, please check your spam folder (it was BCC:ed, which annoys some spam filters). If you can't find it, or if you didn't volunteer when you registered but want to do so now, let me know and I'll send it to you directly. And if you have any questions about volunteering, comment here or drop me a line!

Hello, friends of VividCon. The good news is: so many of you are coming to VividCon! The less good news is: Wow, we're running out of hotel rooms fast! Our room block at the group rate is definitely going to sell out before the July 11th deadline and there is not an endless supply of rooms to keep replenishing it.

So how about a good, old fashioned roommate matchmaking post?

Have at it in the comments, attending members. Good luck, and happy matchmaking!

Greetings, vid fans! Important news follows about schedule changes for the VividCon finale, so please read:

Y'all? You sent some vids. Wow, did you send some vids. Including second priority and non-attending vids, we received a record 63 vid submissions for Premieres. A big thank you to everyone who sent or contributed to a vid. This is pretty incredible.

All together, across all shows, the total number of premiering vids submitted to VividCon shows this year is about 150 vids.

If you're wondering, "how the heck are they going to fit all those vids?" This is where important schedule changes come into play!

*

The updated VividCon con schedule:

http://vividcon.com/vividcon-programming-schedule-2018/

*

Schedule changes:

Premieres will now run from 7:00pm - 10:45pm. The show will run in three one-hour blocks split by fifteen-minute breaks.

For this reason, Vid Karaoke has been cancelled. Apologies if you were looking forward to it! There simply isn't time.

Vid Review will start promptly at 9:30am on Saturday morning and run from 9:30am - 12:00pm.

In Depth Vid Review will also start at 9:30am on Sunday, to allow time to discuss more vids. It will run 9:30am - 12:00pm.

VividPrompts has become Also Premiering, a show combining VividPrompts, second priority and non-attending vids from Premieres, and vids overflowing from other shows.

Due to the volume of submissions to other shows, we had to shuffle a couple of the themed shows around, which then resulted in a lot of moving pieces that also had to be shifted around, so changes have also been made to the panel and themed vidshow schedule. We did this to the best of our ability, keeping in mind known factors about panelist schedules and possible conflicts. If you are a panelist who now has a scheduling conflict, please let us know ASAP at vvctech@gmail.com.

Nearly New, which was and is scheduled to run in the Comet room opposite Vid Review, had to be split into Nearly New (two hours of first priority vids) and More of Nearly New (a third hour of second priority vids). More of Nearly New will show in Comet in a timeslot TBD.

*

Questions about the con schedule can be left here as comments or emailed to vvctech@gmail.com. Thanks again for sending in your vids!

Hi all!

Just a friendly reminder that:

From There To Here premieres are due TONIGHT (if you signed up in advance)!

Premieres are due NEXT SUNDAY, JUNE 17TH at 11:59PM Eastern Time.

Please remember that it is unlikely we can grant extensions this year, due to the high volume of vids being submitted. If you'd still like to request an extension due to an emergency, please e-mail vvctech at gmail dot com with the understanding that extensions are not guaranteed.

We're so excited to see your creations. Vid like the wind!

Submission deadlines for VividCon shows:

April 29 - Club Vivid
May 13 - VividPrompts
May 20 - Nearly New
May 27 - Challenge
June 3 - Self Portrait
June 10 - There to Here
June 17 - Premieres

Important vid submission reminders:

Premiering vids can be no longer than five minutes. If the vid you plan on premiering in any show is over 05:00, you must contact vvctech@gmail.com to discuss it with a staff member. Whether or not we can accommodate you will depend on how far over five minutes your runtime is, how full we anticipate the vidshow being, flexibility of individual vidshows to run over their allotted time, and so on.

We anticipate high volumes of vid submissions this year. That means second priority vids are unlikely to make it into most shows. That said, we still want you to submit any second priority vids you want to send in! We'll place whatever we can in the shows, and all submitted shows will have a tickbox option to roll over vids to vid streaming if there isn't room for them in the shows at the con.

If you are planning on submitting vids, know that our deadlines aren't as soft as they have been in previous years. We're going to have a lot of premiering vids coming in for a number of shows, and our tech schedule will need to run on time, so deadline extensions are unlikely. All vid deadlines hit on Sundays this year to give vidders the full weekend, which we hope will help with last minute vidding. If you need an extension, you can email vvctech@gmail.com, but please be understanding if we can't grant you one this year.

Help us plan ahead!

If you already know what you'll be submitting for Premieres and/or Challenge, you can help us immensely by filling out this survey:

VividCon 2018 Premieres & Challenge Survey

The more we know about how many vids we'll be getting (and how long they are, and what fandoms we're looking at), the better we can plan ahead. Even if you aren't 100% sure what you're sending in, please take a moment to fill out the survey if you can.
