It’s here! The “Change It Up” blog hop reveal, sponsored by Brenda Sue Lansdowne of B’Sue Boutiques!

Participants were invited to create a jewelry design choosing from a selection of components. The photo below depicts the components we could choose from. I selected the leafy scroll style one shown in the top left of the photo. It is one of my very favorite stampings that B’Sue Boutiques carries. It is shown here in raw brass, but I used one with a brass ox finish because I like the way Vintaj patinas look over this finish.

Another twist was that we had to use it in a way that we normally wouldn’t. We could choose to cut it up, turn it upside down or inside out. Which is what I did, even turning the middle section upside down!

MY PROCESS:

So, the first step in my process was to cut it up into three pieces, the middle section to use as a pendant, and the two smaller sections to incorporate as earrings. After cutting the stamping apart, I used a dremel to smooth down rough edges. I also selected a vine-like motif component and cut it apart as well. I felt that it mimicked a scrolling rose vine, which is exactly what I wanted.

Components Coming Together

Once I did the prep work for the components, I went on to the fun part, colorizing! The media I used were Vintaj patinas, regular acrylic paint, and Lumiere metallic paints. Next came the drilled holes for suspending the pendant and earring beads. I then sealed all the pieces for long wear.

Now, as I had previously mentioned, the name I chose for my project is “Summer’s Last Rose”. As you can guess, the name came from these lovely artisan lampwork glass, Rose motif beads. I’ve had them in my stash for some time and purchased them when we first set up the Internet. At that time I discovered luscious floral, glass lampwork beads! Oh my, what would I do with these beautiful miniature gardens in the palm of my hand? These were just waiting for the right project!

As I was working on this project, I couldn’t help but think of my dad. I believe he is the one I inherited my love of flowers from. I recalled that as a little girl, I watched him tend to his beautiful roses climbing up the tall trellis alongside the wall of our house. He was so proud of them. I also remember him planting bulb flowers in the flower bed. I love bulb flowers in the spring! So, Summer’s Last Rose can be an ode to my dad. 💕

The final touches include an altered resin rose and various coordinating beads that will make up the hand beaded Neckpiece. The little roses on the neckpiece are resin which I also hand painted and gave them a patina look. And I decided to make the earrings post earrings.

Queen Anne’s Lace

Well, I’m gearing up for tomorrow’s blog hop reveal! Nature has always been one of my biggest inspirations for my jewelry designs. I took this photo of Queen Anne’s Lace on a day I like to call “Denver weather.” That’s when the sun is shining jubilantly and the humidity is low, just fabulous!

Anyhoo, so as I mentioned in my last post, I named my blog project “Summer’s Last Rose”, inspired by my favorite flower. I really enjoyed working on it and am happy with the colors I selected for it. The main design element that I chose is a favorite of mine as well. Looking forward to sharing it with you tomorrow. Have a good night everyone!

Exciting update to report! I can’t believe it’s right around the corner! Yep, it’s the B’Sue Boutiques, September 2015 Blog Hop! It’s called Change It Up and involves creating a jewelry design using one of her components in a way that we normally wouldn’t use it. The reveal isn’t until September 25th, so I can’t post any progress photos of my design. So stay tuned!

But here’s something I made for the B’Sue Boutiques Creative Group regular monthly challenge called Vintage Flair. It’s a real vintage, raw brass locket that I patina’d and altered with a French vintage floral stamping that I hand colorized. It’s such a pretty component with a lovely flourish style which I think just makes this piece.

Sea Treasures!

By the time March rolls around and you’re ohhh so ready to head south, you close your eyes and envision fond memories of beach combing on Florida’s warm sandy beaches. You dig your toes into the warm sand to discover even more sea treasures that have washed up on shore. The hunt is especially exciting after a storm has churned up the ocean to give up even more treasures. I mean, have you ever been to Sanibel Island, FL? A must visit destination!

Ok, getting a bit sidetracked with my day dreaming. So we had a fun challenge for August in the B’Sue Boutiques Creative Group on FB that was all about beachiness, is that even a word? So many beautiful pieces were presented. You can see them if you come join the group! Well, I just had to jump in and present an entry myself. It was so much fun, and challenging, to give her an “unearthed treasure from the sea” look. I’ve named her Sea Treasures Necklace. So what do ya think? She is to be listed in my Etsy shop today!

Why Not a Blue Bee?

I had, had this little guy laying around for some time now. Just wasn’t sure what to do with him as I’m not “into” bugs. But this beautiful new product from Swellegant (color called Skye Sapphire patina) came to my attention and I really wanted to give it a try. As you can see, it’s a stunning blue color! After that, everything just fell into place. Take a look!

Well, why not a blue bee? He can be a fantasy bee that’s just pretty and doesn’t sting. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it, ha-ha!

I’d also had the beautiful Czech cobalt cab in my stash so that’s what I mean when I say things just fell into place. I placed it in a lacy bezel brass ox and attached it securely to the bee’s “abdomen”.

In the photo below, you see I’ve started collecting coordinating beads for a hand wired chain. Ooh, they’re going to look so pretty with the bee, don’t you think?

The photos show that I’ve poured the Swellegant Skye Sapphire patina in a plastic bottle cap from which I carefully sponged it onto the wings. The bee motif stamping had already been prepped with ivory spray paint a while ago.

After rubbing him out a bit, the photo shows the colorizing accents I did with Swellegant’s copper metal coating along with Lumiere’s acrylic bronze paint for highlighting. I also used a bit of the Lumiere to accentuate the lines in his wings. Then I added another coat of Sky Sapphire patina. After sealing, he’s all ready for the final step as shown in the photo above with the blue cab.

Beginnings for my Serenity Necklace

This girl was a lot of work! Playing with the components that I’ve readied for this piece – hand patina’d back filigree finished in shabby white; ornate bezel tray colorized in soft blush, hand placed “antiqued” word ephemera; hand wired Czech glass beads; and last but not least, ceramic bisque rose and lavender resin rose (I didn’t use the little lavender rose after all). A work in progress – WIP:

: Beginnings of a new pendant

An ephemera background, a beautiful brass ox floral wreath motif, and a hand painted and patina’d raw brass bird motif. I hope I’ve succeeded in making it resemble a blue bird! (Brass components are all from my favorite supplier, B’Sue Boutiques.)

In this photo, you see the progression of the pendant’s colorization. I have now used Vintaj patinas on the “flowers” and “leaves”. I selected and mixed a few different colors to come up with a palette I was happy with. Yep, I sure am! 🙂

Shabby Roses Necklace

Oh my, where have I been?!? To be honest I was a bit burned out after the challenge but I’ve also been putting up with a very sore ankle. Of course, with spring time and beyond are all the “to do” lists that accompany the season. Yeah, yeah, excuses,

excuses, LOL!! Anyhoo, I have put some things together since the challenge so I thought I’d do a bit of “catch up”.

Some of my projects fall in line with my shabby chic style and others are some fun stuff that veered in an entirely different direction. And a few are what I’d like to eventually present as a new collection called “Paris is Calling”. Ooh, won’t that be fun?!? So here ya go!

Definitely a variation from my usual. I was in a beach and sun kind of mood! Can you tell? haha!I really enjoy working with those lovely ornate bezel trays. They’re such a wonderful design element! These have all been hand painted and will soon be sealed for protection.

Build a Line Challenge, Round Three! And this is the final Reveal for this challenge!

First and foremost, I want to thank Brenda Sue Lansdowne of B’Sue Boutiques for the Build a Line Challenge class that we’ve all been able to be a part of. We had some fabulous discussions and I will need to go back and consult the files, as some brilliant direction was offered. We discussed so many makering gems at length, and then more questions were raised. A whole lotta jewelry shakin’ goin’ on, that’s for sure!! So, thank you, Brenda, for that and for your generosity as well. You would not believe the prizes that were had from B’Sue Boutiques these past few months!

And secondly, this has been an amazing journey for me! I was so trepidatious when I began with the challenge of writing this blog as one of the requirements for participating in the Build a Line Challenge. But, do you know what? I met a lot of very talented artists along the way. I mean, unbelievable! We all have our quirks, some more than others, myself included. Hey, we’re human! But, happily we’re appreciated by our fellow artists anyway. And although some of us have suffered, and are suffering, some life altering events while participating in this challenge, the art these gals have come up with is nothing short of stunning! So after my short story and new blog photos I’m posting for this hop, please check out as many of these awesome artist’s work as you can. You will not be disappointed! The list for these many talented artists follows my blog below.

So to update, I’ve been gathering more materials, ideas, making new pieces, colorizing, and just plain old having fun! I’m continuing with my shabby chic style and colors for my Afternoon Tea Collection. Annnd! An idea struck me for another collection! Remember my “Paris is Calling” necklace that I mentioned in one of my last blogs? If you don’t, I’ll post a pic for you. Anyhoo, so I decided to start a new collection which will be named “Paris is Calling”. It will still have some shabby vibes but perhaps a little more boho style added to it as well. I think that’s a great idea, don’t you?

So without further a ‘due, here is some more shabby chic style eye candy for you!

The prettiest soft blue leaf earrings and necklace will be added to my Afternoon Tea Collection. The lovely sky blue floral necklace on a leaf base is just perfect with the sky blue earrings. The pendant suspends from a satin matte gold plated rolo chain and closes with a SMG lobster clasp.

: Afternoon Tea Statement Necklace

Now, I would love to walk you through just a couple of steps of creating two pieces being added to my Afternoon Tea Collection soon. The heart with a bird piece is slated to become a brooch and the beautiful blue floral piece will be a necklace.

And being revealed for the first time here, a perfect for spring, light peach floral assemblage necklace, part of my Afternoon Tea Collection.

: Paris is Calling Necklace

I started with the bird stamping, coloring it in shabby blue and glazing it to give it a vintage feel. I did the same with the white leaves and feather plume. I then selected the satin matte gold heart pendant as a base. Then I collected various components like the pretty bisque roses, the faux pearl cabs, and the poly clay leaves as seen in the photo to the left.

In the photo to the right, I’ve started grouping the components on the base piece. Soon I will securely attach them to the base. I may change the pieces up a bit before I’m completely finished with it. Below is a photo depicting an idea of what it may look like when I’m closer to getting her finished.

This next piece I’m debating on whether to make it into a necklace/brooch combo. Hmm, we shall see…

I started with painting and glazing the base for n antique look, then hand painted the pretty light blue brass flowers using several steps. Then the fun part! Playing with several components to form the assemblage piece.
