Wikipedia is celebrating its 25th birthday this 2026! We're calling on editors from in and around Metro Manila—the typhoon article writers, the MRT enthusiasts, the monument photographers, or anyone in between—to join us in the celebration on January 18. Here's to making the internet just a little bit better, one edit at a time.

The Manila Wikipedia 25 celebration will be held at Shakey's Pizza Parlor at Eton Centris, Diliman, Quezon City on January 18, 2026 (Sunday) from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Everyone in and around Metro Manila is invited, whether you're an independent Wikimedian or affiliated with one of the Wikimedia groups in the Philippines, whether you have 10,000 edits or are just starting out. We invite editors of all language versions of Wikipedia—like Tagalog, English, Cebuano, or Bikol—or contributors to other Wikimedia projects, such as Wikimedia Commons or Wikidata.

Please be on time for the event, as we expect to start at 1:00 p.m.! Check the traffic and weather on the day of the event and adapt accordingly. If you're coming via public transport from within Metro Manila, this area is easily accessible through Image3 Quezon Avenue station or via  1  Quezon Avenue on the EDSA Carousel.

We may reimburse local transport costs to and from the event (counted together) not exceeding ₱600. Please be sure to present your receipts or tickets when requesting reimbursement! This includes public transport; other forms of travel may be reimbursed at standard rates by distance in line with LTFRB public transport rates, also not exceeding ₱600. Exceptions to this limit may be made on a case-by-case basis. Please reach out to the organizers in advance if you'd like to avail of this!

Public transport directions

[edit]
  • If you're coming from the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange, you're in luck! You can take the EDSA Carousel which runs along EDSA and alight at the  1  Quezon Avenue stop.
  • If you're coming from España Boulevard or Quezon Avenue or if you're coming from Taft Avenue and would prefer to ride a bus, a bus on Route 6 (Sapang Palay – PITX) or Route 7 (Fairview – PITX) can take you all the way to  6   7  Examiner St., but you'll need to walk the rest of the way as buses will take the Quezon Ave. underpass and skip past EDSA. An overpass crossing above EDSA can take you to the road's east side, ending at the Centris Station mall.
  • If you're coming from Fairview or Commonwealth Avenue, a bus on Route 6 (Sapang Palay – PITX) or Route 7 (Fairview – PITX) can take you all the way to  6   7  Lung Center of the Philippines. This is also the next stop if you happened to miss the Examiner St. stop from the northbound bus. The walk to Shakey's from here is 1.2 km (18 minutes): head westbound on Quezon Ave. then turn left at EDSA.
    • Some jeepney and UV Express routes along Quezon Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue will pass by the service road near the entrance to Eton Centris. There are also some southbound jeepneys and UV Express vehicles along Commonwealth Avenue that will display a placard for Eton Centris; these have their terminal at Eton Centris and will also pass by the building where Shakey's is located.
    • Though only available at specific times of the day (and not around the time of the event), a provisional modification to Route 6 buses may run from Sapang Palay to NIA South Rd. instead, passing through East Avenue, then Internal Rd. The final drop off will be at NIA South Rd., a 700 m (9 minute) walk northbound along EDSA to the Shakey's.
  • If you're coming from Bonifacio Global City, you can either:
    • Ride the BGC Bus to the McKinley Exchange Corporate Center (Ayala), then take the EDSA Carousel from there to Quezon Avenue or ride the MRT-3 from Image3 Ayala to Image3 Quezon Avenue.
    • Ride the Fort Bonifacio Gate 3 - Guadalupe modern jeepney along 38th St at Uptown Parade or Market! Market!, then take the MRT-3 or EDSA Carousel from Image3 Guadalupe to Image3 Quezon Avenue.
  • If you're coming from Buendia Avenue (Image Gil Puyat), you can reach the EDSA Carousel via buses or jeepneys that run from Buendia Ave. (eastbound) to One Ayala/Image3 Ayala, where there's a bus station on the northbound lane of EDSA (in front of the Jollibee at the McKinley Exchange Corporate Center, i.e. the TELUS building) that you can reach via a footbridge that crosses EDSA. This saves you from having to go north just to transfer at Image Doroteo Jose.
  • If you're coming from any area served by an Image LRT Line 1 station, or from Taft Avenue and would prefer to ride a train, you may opt to take the closest station and transfer at Image Doroteo Jose to Image Recto station via the elevated walkway, or transfer at Image EDSA to Image3 Taft Avenue station.
  • If you're coming from any area served by an Image LRT Line 2 station (e.g. Katipunan and Marikina), you may opt to take the closest station and you can transfer from Image Araneta Center–Cubao to the MRT Line 3's Image3 Araneta Center–Cubao. From the LRT, enter Gateway Mall 1, head straight until you reach the Oasis circular indoor garden, then turn right to take a small escalator into Gateway Mall 2. Take the escalators down to the Upper Ground A floor, then head into the Farmers Plaza Mall. Keep going straight (follow the MRT signs as needed) until you reach the end of the mall, where there should be escalators heading down to the Image3 Araneta Center–Cubao concourse. See below for information on MRT 3.
  • If you're coming from any area served by an MRT Line 3 station, you may opt to take the closest station and drop off at Image3 Quezon Avenue station and the Shakey's is a short walk away from the east side of the station.

[edit]

    • The on-street parking area is exclusive to cars.

Organization

[edit]

This event is organized by User:Chlod and User:Chipmunkdavis for the Wikimedian community in and around Metro Manila at large, with the support of the Wikimedia Foundation. Both are active editors on multiple projects and are prior attendees of Wikimania and other Wikimedia events, including the ESEAP Summit which was held in Manila last May.

Rundown

[edit]

At the birthday, we're looking forward to seeing new and old faces alike. We'll be following this program to keep the energy going throughout the event:

  1. Introductions: Given the expected attendance from a wide variety of Wikimedians, we'll have a short introductory session for attendees to introduce themselves and the projects they are working on.
  2. Wikipedia ice breakers: we'll be playing games with the attendees, using Wikipedia articles of Philippine topics. We're also hoping to base the edit-a-thon topic on the outcome of the games.
  3. Globe cake: we'll be slicing the Wikipedia 25 cake as a collective. We’ll also be taking photographs of the whole group of attendees.
  4. Food and edit-a-thon: we’ll be having a mini edit-a-thon after or while food is served. For those who may be new to editing, we’ll be providing direct coaching, but for those who are experienced, we’ll hope to hear about each other’s experience in editing.
  5. Back to solo editing: we'll be giving our final remarks and handing out tokens of appreciation to attendees before bidding farewell.

Editing

[edit]

As this event includes an edit-a-thon, we are expecting that all attendees are able to improve at least one article on any project. Ideally this would be a Philippine-related article. If you have an article in mind, please feel free to mention it during the registration. However, all are invited to edit on a collective theme that will be worked out during the ice breakers. If you can, bring a device that you're comfortable with editing in! Your phone can also work, if you'd prefer not bringing any large devices.

A list of pages improved during the event will be shared on this page after the event.

Safety

[edit]

For any concerns you might have before, during, or after the event, please feel free to reach out to the organizers. The Universal Code of Conduct and Friendly Space Policy will be observed throughout the whole event.

If you don't want photos or videos of you taken at the event, please tell the organizing team and we will make sure to keep you out of frame or, when difficult, censor your face. We also ask other attendees to respect others' photography preferences. You may choose not to disclose your personal information (e.g. name, age, etc.) to other attendees at the event.

If you experience any emergency during your travel, please call emergency services (911) as applicable. If you need to get in contact with the organizers for any emergency, please contact us on Telegram (@ChlodAlejandro), send us an email (Chlod or Chipmunkdavis; responses may be delayed on the day of the event), or send an SMS message to/call [redacted]. This is a temporary phone number exclusive to this event that will be deactivated shortly after its conclusion.
