content management

Does anyone have any recommendations for content management systems? I've built two and have been asked to build two more sites for friends and local voluntary organisations. It occurs to me that I really want them to be able to update the sites themselves. I know next to nothing about CMS - any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.
