Ode to Christ

For what could you forget your deepest sorrows?
And forsake all of your jewels?
For what would you gladly die?

What splendor and glory beset
my soul as scales fell from my eyes
and Love welled up inside.

Of course, only a million souls
are not enough to reveal
the One who created them;
are not enough to reveal
the love behind their birth.

Oh, Christ! How faith in you
heals the most wretched heart.
How much I need–I crave–to love you more.
How short I fall, alas!

But I set my eyes again on Majesty
on God in the flesh
through whom all things were made.
How grand–how awesome–
is God and worthy to be praised.

Christ
Hope of the heart
my only Light.
