Hewwo

Just popping in because I’m trying to do better abt putting everything on Twitter where 1. Not everyone can see and 2. I don’t like the site anyways…Just to say I’m still alive! I’m still listening to music, new and old. XD I’m even still learning tin whistle…though I’ve not had chance to practice much this Summer like I usually do 😭😭😭.

Some music I’ve been enjoying since my last post:

I’m Here MV – MXFRUIT

MXFRUIT is my new favourite group! Their songs are so fun and I love their MVs. In truth, music videos is what’s gotten me into A LOT of artists. If you’ve seen my early internet days you might remember me mentioning often at the time that I got into Kpop because I loved the music videos. MXFRUIT have such fun and fresh videos. I’ve also been enjoying a lot of other music videos these days, though I don’t seek them out like I used to. MXF just showed up in my YT suggested one days so I decided to check them out. I’m glad I did.

Love Me A Little MV – Shownu X Hyungwon

…Now y’all know I love me some Shownu. XD In general I love MonstaX. Funnily enough I’ve also become more of a Hyungwon fan this year so this duo is really top tier for me. XD I can’t wait for more MX, but am very glad for this unit. The EP is great and I definitely think it’s one I’ll return to. I’ve found that MonstaX as a whole and individually often have songs I return to again and again for very specific vibes and moods. I may not listen to them as much as others, but when their music hits there’s really nothing else comparable for the moment. MX makes music you NEED to listen to rather than you just feel like putting something on. I often want to pay attention and just sit there and let the music rock…I also am glad they keep creeping towards Country. One of these days they’re gonna give us a full Country album. XD They keep going there but it’s not enough for me lmao

Another Day – Exo

I’ve been an ExoL since day one! I’m never going to stop being an ExoL. Their newest album is, honestly? Just another great set of songs. XD There’s nothing really more to say. EXO is an excellent group and I’m so glad they’re almost all done with their service so we will be back to having everyone on for good for the rest of the time they’re active. XD Kai will be missed!

Love Ballad L.T.D.

I’ve been listening to a lot of 70s and 80s as well. L.T.D. and The Gap Band are almost on every new playlist I’ve made. XD I’m…OBSESSED. Don’t even ask me why. XD Also Patti LaBelle XD

Anywho!

That’s what I’ve been up to musicwise so far! What have y’all been listening to these days?

What’s Good?

I’ve been on a bit of a Kpop kick these days. Still catching up with all I’ve missed since my last venture in, and finding out about new people. So many people have had new comebacks since my last post, and I’ve been getting into some new artists in general that I thought I might share some of what I’ve been listening to.

First I’ll start with the playlists:

Is a nice little mix that I listened to recently. I think it has a nice selection of what I’ve been into lately. I was a fan of Shinee before, but had never been terribly too interested in their music, though now that’s changed and I’ve been looking more into some of the members solo work. I really am becoming quite a big fan of Jonghyun. He has a really unique voice. Monsta X is another new addition to my ever growing list of favourite artists. I listened to their most recent album, but will have to go and listen to their previous ones. I’ll be honest, I’m really turned off by the “look at how edgy and ‘hip-hop’ we are” “concepts” a lot of groups do and debut with, but seeing how much of a BTS fan I am now, I try not to hold it against folks too much, as annoying and offensive as they can be. Akdong Musician (AKMU) is also included in this playlist, and another group I’ve recently gotten into, though not as much as the others.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Monsta X these days so this next playlist has a good deal of their songs on here as well.

Now this is an upbeat/chill playlist featuring Korean and American artists, mostly calming and inspiring music. The theme is “morning” so a lot of uplifting and refreshing music featuring groups such as Girl’s Generation, BTS, and After School, some of my favourites, new and old.

Now as for some specific songs I’ve been listening to?

After hearing it on “The Best Morning Vibes” and remembering just how great it is, I’ve had Angels by Chance the Rapper on repeat these past two weeks.

And in anticipation of NAO’s new album (that I have yet to listen to, a shame I know) I’ve been enjoying one of my favourite songs by her, Apple Cherry.

So that’s it for what I’ve been listening to. If you’re interested in anything more, I feel as if I should also mention Seventeen, and NAO again. So far I’ve only heard one song from her new album, but much Mystery Skulls, I tend to like and be able to listen to NAO’s albums repeatedly and all the way through without much regret or disinterest. Her music is really enjoyable and her unique style just isn’t something I’ve heard in anyone else. Her voice truly is amazing and I can’t wait to see what else she’ll do.

This is actually a post I started working on some time ago, but much of my music choices still stand. I think next week I’ll do another post about some of my newer music. It’ll be a post about my recent instrumental favourites.

Wow

So this week in review:

  • BTS released their new MV and concept photos.

  • Lady Leshurr released a new video/track that was pretty fire
  • LEMONADE – BEYONCE, enough said. The entire album/music video was A JOURNEY. I laughed, I cried, it moved me Bob. Really, it deserves an entire post just to itself. One when I can talk about it without getting caught up in my feelings and become an excited awe-struck mess. All the layers, all the tea, all the love. Amazing, just amazing.

  • SEVENTEEN released their new comeback music video and it is so cute and wonderful. I love it. The entire concept is great so far. I can’t wait to see the rest. Really sweet. They’re great as usual.
  • And, perhaps the greatest, yet saddest news of all week, the death of Prince. I still don’t want to believe it. Another great artists gone it what feels to be too soon. So many amazing people we’ve lost. *sighs* I’m not ready for the next one.

All in all this week has been a ride. “I laughed, I cried, it moved me, Bob.” Truly a fitting quote. I’m excited for next week. Heck, I’m excited for the rest of the year with an intro like this. Not even half way through (yet) and so much already has happened. I really feel like something big is just around the corner, for myself, for my favourite artists, for the world. Who knows, maybe it’s just my good mood and readiness talking, but I will will that mess into fruition.

Also BTS and SEVENTEEN are coming to NYKCON, not to mention MAMAMOO and Ailee to name a few I’m excited for. It would be great if I could go, so I’m going to will that into existence too.

Man, I’m just really feeling a lot right now, even as I type this. It’s been “a thing” almost every day this week. It still all feels so overwhelming to think about. I can’t help but feel like I’ll be talking to my kids about all these happening one day, even if it’s just in passing and the “importance” has diminished over time. Let me take this moment to thank all the amazing artists out there doing their thing and sharing their stories with us. Thank you for your bravery, your honesty, your strength. For inspiring us over decades. For reminding us of our own humanity and worth. I love all forms of art, but something about music  in particular has always spoken the loudest to me. It just fills the soul with so much. Joy, anger, sadness, pain, excitement…This year really has been great (for me at least) music wise. I think I say this after every post I make, but I really am excited for what’s next.

Thank you so much for sharing your hard work with us. Thank you so much for you openness and vulnerability. So much hard work goes into creation. To all you artists out there, no matter how “big” or “small” you are. Hobbyist, professionals. Your’e doing some good work. You make the word better for it.

Exciting Developments

So yesterday BTS posted the first music video for their comeback. Honestly, I’m still feeling very excited about this new release. The song is great, the video is great, everything is just looking great so far.

I’ll admit, I was a bit worried when I heard that they were going to have another comeback this May, I mean, Most Beautiful Moments in Life prt 1 and 2 are both amazing albums with awesome music videos to match, but I haven’t always been a big fan of their work and am used to getting into a new band or soloist only for their next drop to be lackluster in comparison to what made me interested in them in the first place.

Though the over feel of this song is different from many of the other songs on the last two albums, it’s still a nice addition to the whole series and I’m excited to see how this will close off. I almost don’t want it to end, but I’m too eager for the future to hold myself to that. Once this album comes out it’ll be the end to the “Most Beautiful Moments in Life” series. I can’t wait to see what BTS will do next.

A Month Old Interview

Just wanted to share this. I’ve been on a youtube music kick lately and watching a lot more interviews than I usually do. I really liked what Keke had to say in this one and thought I should share. Her words definitely touched on some things I’ve been thinking about these past few weeks and dealing with. Very inspiring. I’m so glad to see her doing well and being able to get out there and share her own truth.

I think as an artist, one of the most difficult things to do is be open to putting yourself out there in the first place, no matter how young or old you are, just getting started always seems to be the hardest part, and then keeping up with that and not letting fear stop you from seeing where your journey in your artistry takes you. It’s always nice to watch people grow in who they are and see what they can become. Ironically just a few days ago I got the Jump In! soundtrack because I was feeling nostalgic. She was great in that and even has a couple songs on the album. It’s been so interesting and exciting watching her career progress and I’m so hopeful to see what else she’ll do, not just as a fan of her work, but as a young black woman who enjoys watching other black women succeed and do well in what they strive to do.

This interview just made me think about a lot of different things and her fun energy and joy really brought it all together. I didn’t mean to write so much, I mostly just wanted to share this video. XD I hope it can inspire some other people as well.
