A gloved hand settles on his shoulder. Cold leather.
“Very good, Cloud.”
That silken voice wraps its tendrils around him and he stands, frozen. The smell of Mako is strong: fumes from the reactor. Sephiroth’s boots thud solidly on the metal walkway. He stands over Tifa and points his sword at her throat.

“Doctor,” she whispered, “what do we do if we’re attacked by a werewolf?”
“We’re not looking for a wolf,” the Doctor whispered back. “At best it would have managed a partial transformation when it killed Findlay, but right now it’ll be in human form. We only really need to worry when there’s a full moon.”

She pointed and the Doctor looked up.
Above them, the clouds had parted. The rising moon shone down, bright and round and full.

Summary: Kamski runs some tests on the newly awakened Connor android.
Notes: Imagine a version of someone you know, but they don't have any conscious experiences (qualia). They're exactly the same in every other way, behave the same, respond the same, physically the same, but they don't actually experience the world. No thoughts, no feelings, no sensations. That's a philosophical zombie. The idea is to show that the mental is irreducible to the physical. So basically this fic is about that age-old question: can a robot be conscious?
“Look in that mirror. What do you see?”
A silver-framed mirror hung above the fireplace. Connor obeyed the command, standing up to examine itself with something like curiosity. It lifted a hand and smoothed back a stray lock of hair. “I see my reflection. So that’s what I look like.”
It knew, in some sense, what it looked like from the second it had woken up. That information was stored in its systems, enabling it to identify itself. But it had never seen its own face before.
Somehow that was different.
