Feb. 21st, 2026 06:02 pmIn today's afghan progress, there was some knitting of a brown square (which we've seen before) and SIX SQUARES worth of weaving in ends (because I'd mentioned that would be a lot to do at once in the last update) and ONE washing-and-blocking of a square to finished dimensions.

Undervalued labor in media
Feb. 12th, 2026 09:08 amI have been enjoying the hell out of Dr. Stone (anime), which I first watched during Covid lockdowns and am re/new watching with my anime group. As well, I enjoy "dude/dudette goes back in time, brings modern-ish tech to speedrun folks out of the middle ages" fiction. It's fun escapism and I really enjoy seeing the takes that different authors have on what they would introduce and how they would try to change history. I've talked about this before but there's one thing that these fictions keep doing wrong and today I'm going to talk about that.

Jan. 26th, 2026 07:22 pmI'm waiting on a variety of orchid blooms, but here recently Wilsonara Space Mine Red Rendezvous has provided in the bloom department. Also, the pothos is looking... different now that it is a ways up the moss pole and equipped with its own sun.

More hoarder thoughts
Jan. 23rd, 2026 08:37 amI'm definitely a hoarder sort of person, left to my own devices. The siren song of I should save this for later needs to be firmly tamped down lest I wind up crushed under the weight of the useless things that I could not bear to throw away. Happily, clearing out hoarder apartments does a really good job of reminding me in a definite, cat corpse and dog hair and reeking essential oils sort of way that I need to be tied to the mast... or else. Constant Vigilance!

Afghan Accountability
Jan. 22nd, 2026 09:53 pmThere are now two completed squares and about 3/4 of another square. There's a safety pin on the in-progress square to keep me informed about which side is the "do a different stitch than the one below it" and which side is the "do the same stitch as the one below it" because I was getting confused and peering at fuzzy brown yarn too much for efficient knitting.

Farm show report
Jan. 15th, 2026 09:00 amThe PA Farm Show Complex is huge and a day at the Farm Show is a day full of walking. We did 18K steps according to Lala's watch. There was a lot of stuff to see and do, and we did some of it.
