How do I start using WinNTSetup?
Essentially, WinNTSetup is a tool that you can use to create a custom Windows installation for your PC or for multiple machines. The first thing you need is either a WIM, SWM, or ESD image file to open with the utility. You can even load up an ISO if you have one. It will then display a list of available versions based for you to choose from.
From there, you can immediately proceed to either creating a boot drive for your installer, install it directly to a separate hard drive, or even a partition Virtual Hard Disk(VHD) where you can install an isolated and virtual version of Windows within your OS. Alternatively, you can apply tweaks, ranging from visual changes to enabling or disabling certain core features, and even include important drivers during the installation process.
Lastly, you can also create an unattended installation of Windows using an XML file that contains user input to various prompts and dialogs during the installation process. Just a couple of notes before proceeding. One, WinNTSetup cannot be used to upgrade an existing Windows installation. The second is that if you plan on making a boot drive, you can only do so for Windows 7 and above.
