About the challenge
- Whether you’re a beginner or a master hacker, the WIT Hackathon is a chance for you to show off your finesse in programming, soft skills and other fields.
- It will be held in-person and online at Arts West UniMelb with cash and prizes up for grabs!
- You’ll get the chance to meet other students, working in teams of 3-5 either formed by yourself or by us, while solving a problem.
- IMPORTANT: All participants must be current university students. A maximum of one non-University of Melbourne student is permitted per team, all other members must be current UniMelb students.

Requirements
What to Build
- Any project related to the theme
- Mobile Apps
- Video Games
- Websites or Web Applications (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
- Interactive Command Line Applications (Python, Java, C etc.)
- Mockups or Wireframes
What to Submit
- Open Source: Make sure your source code or other materials are open source (eg. GitHub repository, Google Drive, etc.)
- Pitch: 3-5 minute pitch, followed by a 2 minute Q&A by the judges live during the pitching session on Sunday.
- DevPost: Write a description of your project, what it does, how you’ve made it, any challenges you faced and things you’ve learnt along the way!

Judging Criteria

Functionality (30%)
What does the system actually do? Does this satisfy the minimum functional requirements for the proposed model? How technically difficult is it to build? Deductions for significant bugs. -
UI/UX (25%)
Does it look and feel good? Does it feel intuitive in its design and layout? Is it easy to use? Is it designed with the target audience in mind? -
Viability (10%)
How well do they understand the problem they are trying to address? How does the product solve the problem? Is there a market for the product? Could this become a real business that makes money? -
Strategy (10%)
Have they identified their competitors? How will they deal with them? What is their go-to-market plan? Have they identified what features still need to be added to the product? -
Impact (15%)
Are they tackling a significant problem? Does it address the theme in an elegant way? Is the product/idea unique, interesting, cool, new, or does the team distinguish themselves in any other interesting ways? -
Communication (10%)
Was the pitch clear and concise? Were the Q&A answers clear and concise?
