The day has finally come for me to complete my Singapore citizenship registration. This is not the final step yet as I will have to attend the Citizenship Ceremony in months to come to collect my certificate.

My original appointment was scheduled on 14 August as assigned. However, due to the unavailability of the appointment slot with the High Commission of Malaysia, I have to reschedule my appointment on ICA website which is ~1.5 month later. Thankfully I left a gap of 4 days between those 2 appointments, otherwise I will have to wait for another month or so. Days before the appointment, I received reminder about it. I can also check/change my appointment when logged into ICA portal.

On Monday, I submitted my renounciation of Malaysian citizenship and I was asked to collect the letter 3 days later on Thursday. I was only given 1.5 hour timeslot to collect it. Thankfully my work is flexible and I could take some time off to run this personal errand. This renounciation letter is required for this step and you should remember to photocopy it before bringing to ICA.

My appointment with ICA was at 9:45am on Friday. I arrived at 9:30am and had to take a queue number. There were 5 people ahead of me but the numbers were not called in sequence, which I realized after it was because there were a number of steps involved.

Step 1: Document Check

Check your documents – including photos and the photocopies. The photo MUST be within 3 months. I initially gave a prettier photo that I had submitted before but it was rejected because I used the same photo 2 years ago during my application. LOL! Luckily I did recently take a new photo and it was accepted. I wasn’t so pleased with the photo but oh well, that’ll be on my pink IC for life now…

I also forgot to photocopy my letter and there isn’t any photocopy service in the building. The nearest service is at some coffee shop nearby. The information counter has advised to check with the officer before proceeding. Thankfully the officer helped me to photocopy in their office. :’) The original letter is returned to me and I have to keep it for ~12 months to collect the final letter from High Comms of Malaysia again before submitting it online to ICA.

Once all the documents are checked, you will be required to fill up a form or two (if you are also sponsoring for your dependent). And he will inform you to wait for your number to be called again at the next counter.

Step 2: Pink IC Registration

During this step, the officer will check and confirm your particulars again before getting both your thumbprints. Unfortunately, my thumb skin is heavily damaged and can’t get a good scan. So I had to do a hardcopy black-ink chop as well.

Once done, you’ll again wait for your number to be called to enter into an office for oath taking.

Step 3: Oath of Renunciation, Allegiance and Loyalty

This is the last step. You will enter into a room where the officer will hand you the form you filled up earlier. You will need to raise your right hand and read the oath out loud. It’s kind of emotional to be honest. :’)

Once done, you’ll sign on the form and be given a slip as your temporary pink IC. And you’re done!

If you have a minor dependent, their citizenship certificate will be ready for collection after taking the oath.

You’ll be able to apply for Singaporean passport on ICA portal the next day. Once it’s ready to be collected, you will be notified to come to ICA again.

In the temporary slip, you’ll note a date which you can make appointment online to collect your Pink IC. The date is about 1 week from today. Collection can be made at any Singpost office.

Overall, the process took about 1.5 hour and it’s rather efficient. I’m so proud to be a Singaporean now and can’t wait for my citizenship ceremony in months to come! 🙂

Buying a Vacuum Mop in Singapore? This is what you need to know

Vacuum mop is the latest gadget in town. It probably get introduced in the market a few years back (considering that the models have evolved for a few generations already), but it’s only recently that with more brands emerging as contender, the consumers are getting more serious at considering getting one!

So what is a vacuum mop?

A vacuum mop, also known as wet & dry vacuum, is a household machine that does vacuum and mopping at the same time. Usually it is heavier than a normal vacuum as it carries 2 water tanks – clean water tank and dirty water tank. The clean water (which you may add floor cleaning agent) comes from the clean water tank and works with a rotating soft brush roller to mop the floor. At the same time, the vacuum sucks the used water back into a separate dirty water tank. If it’s a good machine, it should leave your floor fairly dry as well.

A vacuum mop is especially useful when you have young kids at home, especially if you are doing “baby-led weaning” (BLW). Be prepared to get all the mess on the floor 3 times a day. A vacuum mop will come in super handy to just vacuum and mop all the food mess away in minutes.

You just need to make sure to clear the dirty water tank after each use to prevent foul smell. Self-cleaning function should be used from time to time too to maintain the cleanliness of the roller brush and piping system.

How to choose a vacuum mop?

There are a few key parameters for your consideration:

  1. Suction power – Higher power doesnt mean it’s the best. Let’s forget about Max mode as it’s battery draining. Can it suck well like any other vacuums in the normal mode?
  2. Working mode – Which practical modes does it has? Usually there’s Auto, Max, Suction (vacuum liquid without mopping), and Ultra (sanitization).
  3. Runtime – Max that I’ve seen is 45mins. I dont think I’d want to vacuum any longer than that. Depending on how big is your house and how frequent you do vacuum.
  4. Tank capacity – The bigger, the heavier, but you need
  5. Edge cleaning – This is quite critical as it can get on your nerves if there are just little hair and debris accumulating at the edge.
  6. Self-cleaning & drying – Super useful to have quick self-cleaning and drying function. Some even have hot water wash and hot air drying.
  7. Sensor – That’s what Auto mode should be all about. Detecting more dirts, and thus increasing suction power.
  8. Self-Propulsion – As the machine is heavy, this feature will be very useful if it’s working right! Otherwise, it can be a good training for your biceps. 😉
  9. Lighting at roller head – Trust me, it makes a difference. You can find dust more easily, you can even vacuum in the dark.
  10. Warranty – Usually 2 years. Good to change some batteries!

Here are some of the brands that I have tried / researched on and my key findings.

Tineco S7 Pro

There are a few models for Tineco but let’s go with their best – S7 Pro.

  • Price point: $1269
  • Likes: Self-propulsion makes it easy to maneuvre and feels light. LCD screen to show the different mode and status. Electrolyzed water before self cleaning and Ultra mode. Room temperature air drying = no odor (wish I knew this earlier).
  • Dislikes: The most expensive option out there.
  • 3.3 Deals: $957 with free 2x cleaning soution <- this is the lowest price seen so far!!

Tineco S7 pro specification and benefits

S5 Combo provides you with the flexibility to use it as a handheld vacuum. S5 capacity is smaller and with a lower run time. Suction and mopping works as well – at least I can’t feel the difference in cleanliness.

Dreame

Dreame H-Series have a few models and I’m using H13 Pro with the highest suction power, longest run time (in the market) and hot water wash to kill all germs and bacteria. If you’d like to also have a dry vacuum, go for H12 Dual.

  • Price point: $899
  • Likes: It has everything that Tineco S7 Pro has, but it’s slightly cheaper and with hot water wash & hot air drying. It has the highest suction power vs the rest (18kPA) -> but actually this doesnt make much difference.
  • Dislikes: Though all seems as good as Tineco, the user experience is just lacking a bit. It’s not as ergonomic as Tineco unfortunately but you can get used to it! And you get some savings!
  • 3.3 Deals: $769 with free one year accessory package (including roller brush, filter, floor cleaning agent)

  • Dislikes: It has dual brush system and we weren’t sure why it will leave on a line of water in the middle, so we gave it a pass.

  • Likes: It’s very light. Loving all the versatile accessories
  • Dislikes: No self-cleaning function. Expensive.

  • Likes: It’s very cheap and it’s much lighter than its peer (3.85kg vs 5kg Tineco). It seems to have most features (self propulsion, self cleaning, LED light) and at a reasonable high suction power (16kPA)
  • Dislikes: It doesn’t have Max suction mode and edge cleaning.

Would you recommend Dripify LinkedIn automation tool? No.

Dripify is a LinkedIn automation tool for lead generation and prospecting, compatible with Premium and Sales Navigator. It is a new product evolved from Octopus CRM and I have been using it for a few months to source for new interview candidates for my incubation project. The result, however, has not been too satisfactory. With the price 6 times higher than Octopus, the conversion rate is far less than what I had with Octopus before. It’s strange – how could automation go wrong? Perhaps having some human touch in messaging is really needed!

After a few months of experience with Dripify, I must say that while I appreciate the feature, I am disappointed at how it is being managed. I am hopeful to try out other competitors tools. Any recommendation?

Pros of Dripify:

  1. Easy to set up and use – but make sure you got it right the first time.
  2. Automation is what it does – Do your work on Sales Navigator and let Dripify send the invite and messages for you at its own safe pace.

Cons of Dripify:

  1. Expensive – You pay $63.3 per month just for 1 campaign. While on Octopus, do as many of your A/B testing campaigns and fine-tuning at $9.99 per month.
  2. Inflexible features – such as you cannot modify your campaign once set and you cannot duplicate your campaign. To make changes, you need to delete all your campaign set up and leads data, and redo again.
  3. Bad customer service – they don’t answer to your question; you get a new agent for every reply and he/she did not read the thread to get the context of your question.
  4. They charge you for the month with no refund policy.
  5. They might tell you to give you an upgrade free trial but waits until you are being charged for the month so that they can ask you to wait till next month. By then, they have changed an agent and will ignore your request.

So in conclusion, if you need automation tool for a short period of time, give it a try. But don’t pay for the full year. Explore better options with nicer customer support out there.

Min Seol Ah’s adopted brother in the US who was saved by Seol Ah’s bone marrow. He came to Korea to avenge her death. He has a love interest in Shim Su Ryeon.

Someone who look alike as Shim Su Ryeon. Claimed as the birth mother of the twins – Joo Seok Hoon and Joo Seok Kyung. She has died in Penthouse Season 1 last episode but Shim Su Ryeon played her role in Season 2.

Penthouse – Who is Miss Jin?

She was hired by Logan Lee to keep an eye at Cheong Seo Jin. She became obsessed with Ha Eun Byul and colluded with Joo Dan Tae.

A rich real estate tycoon who was a beggar. His real name is Baek Jun Ki. He killed the real Joo Dan Tae’s parents and switched the identity with Baek Jun Ki. He also killed Na Ae Kyo (as Shim Su Ryeon) and framed Oh Yoon Hee for it. But now all the blame is on Logan.

He is the son of a Japanese-Korean tycoon. His parents were killed by the current “Joo Dan Tae”. He came to Korea with Logan to avenge “Joo Dan Tae”. S3 E6 – He colluded with Cheong Seo Jin for unlimited supply of cash to gamble.

She is the birth mother of Hye-In. She was the only one who dug up the secret of Shim Su Ryeon’s twins. As a result, she was killed by Joo Dan Tae but Yoo Dong Pil kept her body behind the wall of the fountain at Hera Palace.

Min Seol Ah and Joo Seok Kyung are Shim Su Ryeon’s real daughters with her first husband. Joo Hye-In are her adopted daughter who was switched with Min Seol Ah.

Powerful and rich business lady who often visits Kang Ma Ri’s bath house. She will help the girls later on. What is Joo Dan Tae money compared to her… I wonder where she lives…

Penthouse – Who is Alex Lee?

No, Alex is not Logan. Alex is Logan hipster brother. He came to Korea to find his dead brother. He commands a whole gang of high society thugs and is now providing a safe house for his brother.

Yes, Alex loves his brother Logan. So, don’t think we need to worry about him betraying Logan. 🙂 Yay!

And let’s get some incident facts right.

Penthouse – Who killed Min Seol Ah?

Season 1 – Oh Yoon Hee. But it was until Season 2 that the truth was revealed. At some point, you must be guessing it was Joo Dan Tae or Cheong Seo Jin. But Oh Yoon Hee has confirmed that she killed Min Seol Ah. Unless there’s some memories that she didn’t recall properly, for example, she was trying to save her when someone else pushed her. But I think this case is closed.

Penthouse – Who killed Cheong Seo Jin’s father?

Cheong Seo Jin caused him to fall off the stairs on a rainy day after she tried to beg her father not to transfer her ownership of the Foundation to her sister. She ran away and caused her father to die. Ha Eun Byul recorded the incident in her phone but was never exposed.

Penthouse – Who killed Shim Su Ryeon?

Oh Yoon Hee was framed in Season 1. But we found out that it was Joo Dan Tae who stabbed her to death. And it was Na Ae Gyo who disguised as Shim Su Ryeon when she was stabbed. She was confirmed dead as her ashes were verified in Season 2 as evidence for a fake murder case to frame Joo Dan Tae. In Season 3, Logan Lee is now the new “murderer” as evidence was found that it was Logan who paid for the “cremation”.

Penthouse – Who killed Bae Ro Na?

We were led to believe it was Ha Eun Byul who caused the death of Bae Ro Na when she stabbed her with the trophy. Then we thought Ha Yoon Chul killed Bae Ro Na while she was in comma. But it was Joo Dan Tae who stabbed her at her head with the trophy and later on tried to remove her life support. Shim Su Ryeon rescued Bae Ro Na. But wasn’t it weird that Oh Yoon Hee didn’t bother to look at her daughter before she was cremated?

Penthouse – Who killed Logan Lee?

Penthouse 2 Episode 13 – Joo Dan Tae disguised as an old man and detonated a bomb beside Logan’s car.

Penthouse 3 Episode 6 – Logan Lee is still alive, saved by Baek Jun Ki who were ordered by Cheong Seo Jin to keep him alive. Ha Yoon Chul is currently attempting to cure Logan for 6 (logically should be more) months under the instruction of Cheong Seo Jin (unknowingly). He is now alive and well, reunited with Shim Su Ryeon while recovering from his burn injury.

Penthouse – Who killed Kim Mi Sook?

Joo Dan Tae. But Yoo Dong Pil took the fall so that his daughter can stay in a nice house at Hera Palace.

Penthouse – Who killed Oh Yoon Hee?

Penthouse 3 Episode 5 – Cheong Seo Jin pushed her off the cliff after Yoon Hee attempted to stop the car containing Ha Eun Byul from falling off the cliff. Yoon Hee was found by Secretary Do and her “body” (still unsure if it’s really her) was hidden in the Hera Palace fountain wall so that Joo Dan Tae can frame Yoo Dong Pil again. Yoon Hee’s body was later found in the river and it was shown on screen. There is very little doubt that she is really dead.

Now, here are the unexplained plot twists…

How did Shim Su Ryeon come to live?
