Payap University is approved by the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to offer degree programs to eligible veterans. Payap is approved for 14 academic programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. This includes all International College programs which are taught entirely in English. Hundreds of veterans have attended Payap University degree programs since 2005 and many continue to do so. Payap University is located in the northern Thailand city of Chiang Mai, a culturally rich region with a diverse populace and an extremely low cost of living. The VA offers very generous housing allowance at foreign schools which can go much further in Chiang Mai than most other major cities. Note: VA funding is only authorized for students attending the university on a full-time basis and enrolled in one of the approved degree programs. Certificate programs (such as the Intensive Thai Program) are not eligible.

Most veterans attending Payap University use their Post-9/11 GI Bill, or Chapter 33, benefits. Payap is experienced with this program and has assisted countless students in fully utilizing their Chapter 33 benefits to the fullest extent.
DEPENDENTS WELCOME
Payap University is approved to accept all Chapter 35 Survivors' and Dependents' Education Assistance (DEA) applicants. An eligible veteran can transfer his/her benefits to a dependent spouse, children, or adopted children. Contact the VA to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility for the eligible dependent.
STUDY ABROAD
Studying abroad is one of the best ways American college students can acquire the international experience necessary to succeed in today’s globalized world. Studying abroad gives students the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of foreign cultures and languages and the cross-cultural communication skills necessary for 21st century leadership. Vets can use their Post 9/11 GI Bill to study abroad at Payap University for 1 or 2 semesters. Be sure to contact your VA School Certifying Official to determine whether your school is participating in the VA Study Abroad program.
ABOUT CHIANG MAI, THAILAND
Chiang Mai is the largest northern Thailand city with a unique mixture of traditional Thai Lanna culture and modern conveniences. Visitors and locals alike find Chiang Mai to be a refreshing escape from the hectic urban lifestyle while offering all the modern amenities that a big city has. There are hiking trails, lakes, rivers, parks, temples, golf courses, tennis and pickleball courts, and many other activities for the outdoor enthusiasts. The weather is warm to hot year-round. There are also shopping malls and local markets and all manner of international cuisine. A sample of international restaurants include Italian, German, French, American, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Mexican, Indian and many more. And of course, many different types and levels of Thai food from street vendors to fine Thai dining.
Housing in Chiang Mai is plentiful and surprisingly cheap, even compared to other Thai cities including Bangkok. Healthcare in Chiang Mai is both excellent and affordable. There are many hospitals that cater to both locals and international visitors. Chiang Mai has Uber-type ride-hailing companies that provide inexpensive transportation most anywhere, anytime. Chiang Mai has the latest in communication technology for internet-access, cable TV, and mobile phone access. And it should be noted that the cost of living in Chiang Mai is considerably less than most major cities in the world, including Bangkok. With the generous housing allowance offered by the VA, your money will go a long way in Chiang Mai. Lastly, Chiang Mai is among the safest large city in the world.
