Find your local unit at the 501st Legion unit listings, and contact them to find out if there are any specific local procedures to applying. Your local unit's GML (Garrison Membership Liaison) will have the most accurate and up-to-date information on the application process. In all cases, you will need to fill out and submit the Online Application and prepare high resolution photos of you in your costume against a plain background, showing the front, back, both sides, and (if applicable) with helmet/mask on and off. Be prepared for additional requests, depending on the unit.
Generally, our members make their own costumes. To provide help with projects, the 501st has formed Detachments, each focused on particular costumes, offering the best information available on creating them. Joining a Detachment forum is strongly recommended, and you can find a list of them here. A list of current approved costumes is at the Costume Reference Library.
