AdventureSmart encourages our participants to silently acknowledge the traditional territories and Indigenous communities where they live and recreate. AdventureSmart also acknowledges the lands of which our outdoor educators promote and deliver important Search and Rescue Prevention messaging nationally.

REMINDER

There is NO charge or immediate contact number to reach Ground Search and Rescue in Canada. If you need to contact GSAR, the number is 911.

Tips for Effective Emergency Communication

  • NEVER rely solely on your phone as a communication device, but ensure it is readily available and charged.
  • ALWAYS CALL 911 FIRST: Emergency calls will connect you to any tower in range; and remember, a text may go through even if you don’t have adequate reception for a voice call.
  • UNDERSTAND GPS coordinates and turn on ‘Location Settings’. Train yourself with your device capabilities to obtain GPS readings.
  • Once you’ve attempted to make contact, STAY PUT so searchers can find you.
