Hi, I’m Toby and I created Brightmind.
If you’re here, you probably already know meditation is valuable. The real question is: why Brightmind? The answer is a principle that guides everything I do:
“As simple as possible—but no simpler.”
You see, meditation apps fail people in two opposite ways. Sometimes, they make it over complicated and abstract. Other times, it’s oversimplified—pleasant, calming, but ultimately shallow. Brightmind lives perfectly in the middle. I’ve simplified all the stuff that can be simplified, but I’ve been very careful to leave the essence that gives meditation its transformative power.
My principle of as simple as possible, but no simpler is reflected everywhere in Brightmind—the guided meditations, app design, and community.
Guided Meditations
Most meditation apps offer hundreds of sessions that all kinda blur together. Focus on the breath, notice thoughts, relax. That’s a good start, but it’s too simple and lacks precision. App Design
Other apps hand you a massive library, which creates two problems: every time you open the app, you have to decide what to practice, and the learning never builds because you’re all over the place. Brightmind solves both problems with a single, expert-designed Journey. There’s nothing to decide, you just open the app and press play. And each session builds on the last, so learning sophisticated practices is a breeze over time.
Community
