You have thousands of emails saved on your computer as PST, OST, EML, MSG, MBOX, or EMLX files. You need to find the one that mentions a specific keyword, a date, or a sender. Mail Terrier scans your drives, indexes every email file it finds, and lets you search through them in seconds.
Mail Terrier works with all major email file formats stored on your hard drive:
No need to install Outlook or any other email client. Mail Terrier reads email files directly from disk.
Search by a single keyword, a phrase, or build advanced rules using AND, OR, and NOT operators. Filter by sender, recipient, subject line, date range, or message body. Set proximity rules to find emails where two words appear within a specific distance of each other. For example: find emails containing "contract" and "renewal" in the body, within 3 words of each other, but excluding emails with "spam" in the subject.
Mail Terrier displays a list of matching emails with full metadata: sender, recipient, subject, date, and file path. Preview any email with a double click — view HTML, plain text, or headers. Export selected emails to PDF, TEXT, TIFF, EML, or MSG. Export the results list to PDF, XLS, or DOC with all properties for reporting and documentation.
Mail Terrier creates an index of all email files on your drive. The initial scan takes a few minutes depending on the volume of data. After that, every search returns results in seconds — even across gigabytes of archived email. Search history is saved, so you can repeat any previous search instantly.
Free for personal use at home. For commercial use in legal, forensic, compliance, or business environments, a license costs $199.

Wondering how to search keywords in email files stored on your computer? Mail Terrier makes it simple in three steps.
Step 1 — Select email folders. Set the folders containing your email files. For Outlook emails, point to your PST or OST file. For Thunderbird or Google Takeout, select the folder with MBOX or EML files. Mail Terrier will scan the selected folders and create an index of every email it finds. If you need to search Gmail emails, export them from Google Takeout first and then point Mail Terrier at the downloaded MBOX file.
Step 2 — Set the search rule. Enter the keyword, phrase, or combination of rules. Choose where to search: entire email, subject line only, body only, or headers. Set a date range or filter by sender. Use AND, OR, NOT operators to build precise queries.
Step 3 — Press Search. Mail Terrier displays a list of matching emails with sender, subject, date, and file path. Preview any email with a double click. Export results to PDF, XLS, or DOC. The search takes seconds once the index is built, even across gigabytes of data.
