February 2026
Well, it's that time of year again February! That means Valentine's Day, but for me, it also means another year older.
Some of you may know that I'm not a big fan of February because of this. I try to make the best of the situation, but it’s difficult to cope with the reality of getting older without feeling like I've accomplished anything career wise.
Back form the hospital
Mom is finally back from the hospital, and I’ve never seen such incompetence! No one seemed to know what they were doing, and both Mom and I were really frustrated.
The kicker was that Mom had been right about the port getting infected when she came in, and it took a whole week for them to figure out the obvious, idiots! She suffered from a fever in the process.
I think they knew about the issues, and they didn't insert the port correctly in the first place, especially since it bothered her when it was put in so this could be malpractice.
Thankfully, it’s now been removed, but knowing my mom, she might consider legal action for what she went through at that hospital. The nurses there had no clue what they were doing, and they didn’t communicate well with each other. They must be new employees because we’ve never encountered this level of poor care before.
Anyway, we’re back home now and she's trying to get some rest after everything we’ve been through.
Crazy week at the hospital
This has been on hell of a week.
Last week, I had to take my mom to the emergency room because her port, which she uses for chemotherapy, didn’t feel right and was hurting her. I suspected it might be infected, which has happened before; her previous port had to be removed due to infection.
They admitted her overnight, but unfortunately, she developed a fever from the infection. She stayed in the hospital all week as they worked to bring her fever down and conducted tests to identify the problem.
Today, we finally found out that the port was placed incorrectly, so it has to be removed. As for the infection, they said there was a type of bacteria, and they are treating that.
But OMG the amount of doctors and nurse and back and forth phone calls with my sister and brother (who are in the medical field) was peak stress for me and mom!
That’s why I haven’t been very active this week. I’ve been going back and forth to the hospital. I carried my laptop with me so I could get some work done because I can't just stop; I rely on my art for income. I’ve managed to get some commissions, which is good.
Now we have to wait for the doctor to complete the paperwork to remove the port. I'm concerned about how my mom will receive her chemotherapy treatment without it.
