Ryan Carpenter is the founder of DEVTEC, a high-end construction and development company built on precision, accountability, and disciplined execution. His work today reflects a lifetime of building, problem solving, and leading teams in environments where performance, coordination, and trust matter.
Ryan is no stranger to building things. Long before his professional career, he was hands on from an early age, building, dismantling, and rebuilding out of curiosity and a desire to understand how things worked. Much of his foundation was self-taught, driven by a deep interest in science, physics, mechanics, and systems. That early curiosity shaped a mindset centered on structure, function, and cause and effect, principles that continue to guide his work at DEVTEC.
Prior to launching DEVTEC, Ryan spent more than two decades in the motion picture industry, where his work in immersive theater design became a gold standard for technical excellence. He most recently served as Director of Projection Engineering for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, overseeing the design, operation, and modernization of world class venues including the Samuel Goldwyn Theater, the David Geffen Theater, the Ted Mann Theater, and the Linwood Dunn Theater. These environments demanded absolute precision, seamless integration of advanced technology, and flawless performance under global scrutiny. Ryan and his teams delivered consistently at the highest level, setting benchmarks for theatrical exhibition and immersive experience.
Working in the motion picture industry required exceptional technical acuity, calm under pressure, and constant coordination across creative, engineering, facilities, legal, and executive teams. Ryan developed a reputation for troubleshooting complex challenges, anticipating failure points, and translating creative vision into reliable systems that performed perfectly when it mattered most.
The COVID 19 pandemic permanently altered the movie industry and the traditional theater experience. As exhibition models shifted and uncertainty reshaped how people gather in physical spaces, Ryan recognized an opportunity to apply his skills in a new way. This period marked a deliberate transition away from entertainment and toward construction and development, where his experience in precision execution and systems thinking could have direct and lasting impact.
At DEVTEC, Ryan applies a core principle that has guided his entire career, doing things the right way the first time. He believes that shortcuts create long term risk and that quality, preparation, and accountability are non-negotiable. DEVTEC has become known for its ability to take on challenging projects, troubleshoot complex conditions, and educate clients on building technologies, smart home systems, and modern construction methods using cutting edge tools and materials.
Ryan and his team have also played a hands-on role in supporting communities impacted by disaster. DEVTEC has assisted both Palisades and Eaton fire victims, providing services that range from remediation and damage assessment through full rebuilds.
