Founders
Mahmoud Sami Abdelkawi
Founder and Senior Advisor
Mahmoud Sami Abdelkawi’s contributions have profoundly shaped modern infrastructure. For decades, he has worked tirelessly to drive progressive developments enhancing quality of life across Egypt, the MENA region, and Europe. His mark can be seen in dams, power plants, utilities, industrial and agricultural projects, transport, and oil & gas facilities.
Where It All Began
It all began with a bachelor’s degree from Cairo University in 1948. Following three years as a Teaching Assistant at the university’s Faculty of Engineering, he established a contracting company that would later grow into one of Egypt’s leading construction and transportation firms.
After the nationalization of his company in 1962, Abdelkawi joined Arab Contractors (Osman Ahmed Osman & Co.), then the foremost construction company in Egypt and the Middle East, serving as Managing Director and Board Member.
The Call of Vision
Therefore, in 1969, he formed a partnership with Ashraf Allouba and established ECG Engineering Consultants Group S.A.
Together they formed a formidable team that went on to execute some of Egypt’s most vital mega-scale projects. Those included, the “Alexandria Wastewater Program,” “Fayyum Drinking Water Supply & Sanitation,” “Attaqa 300 MW Thermal Power Plant in Suez,” “Cairo International Airport Terminal Building 3,” “Damanhur & Mahmoudeya Combined Cycle Power Plants,” as well as “The Master Plan of Greater Cairo Waterworks.”
A Legacy of Distinction
Abdelkawi is currently active with a number of prestigious associations, including the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers, Egyptian Society of Engineers, Egyptian Society of Mechanical Engineers, Egyptian Geographical Society, Institut d’Égypte, and American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Ashraf H. Allouba
Founder
ECG would not be a multidisciplinary consultancy company on equal footing with its global counterparts without the valuable contributions of Ashraf Allouba. Allouba came to the ECG table with a degree in Architecture from Cairo University, as member of the Construction Supervision Team commissioned for the construction of Nile Hilton Hotel, and as a former Director of Planning at Arab Contractors (Osman Ahmed Osman & Co.).
ECG’s founder proved to be a game changer
Allouba’s star began to rise when he revolutionized the Arab Contractor’s system by introducing the Program Evaluation & Review Technique (PERT)/Critical Path Method (CPM) into project planning and evaluation efforts. In his capacity as Director of Planning, he also engineered a comprehensive computerized Management Information System (MIS), which covered personnel accounts, cost and resource allocation, and inventory control.
As the other half of this venerable team, he has been involved in an incredibly extensive list of projects. This includes urban and town planning, educational, healthcare, and sports facilities, industrial, administrative, and commercial buildings, hotels, resorts, and recreational facilities, mosques, banks, and power plants, as well as many other public- and private-sector projects in Egypt, the MENA Region, and Europe.
As such, he is widely regarded as a resource in the field of engineering, architecture and design. Allouba’s years of knowledge and experience has poured into the “Study of National Policy of Urban Development” which was funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Egyptian Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities. What’s more, he was a member and fellow of the Egyptian Society of Consulting Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, and Egyptian Businessmen’s Association.
Awards and Recognition
In recognition of his pioneering efforts in modern-day engineering, he has received several awards of excellence. The awarding bodies includes the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers, Cairo University, Egyptian Society of Engineers, and others.
