Hi Trevor, I am evaluating a torispherical head with generalized corrosion and unknown weld examination using API 579 elastic analysis. Applying RSfa = 0.9 and weld efficiency = 0.7 reduces ASME II-D allowable stresses significantly. Since only the knuckle is weld-governed, should this reduction apply only to the weld band, or is this conservatism intentional in API 579?
