An EC/EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is an important legal document required for products sold in the European Union that fall under CE marking directives. Key points about the EC/EU Declaration of Conformity include:

1. Purpose: It’s an official statement by the manufacturer or their authorized representative declaring that a product complies with all relevant EU directives, regulations and standards.

2. Responsibility: By signing the DoC, the manufacturer assumes full responsibility for the product’s compliance with EU health, safety, and environmental protection requirements.

3. Content: The DoC typically includes:

   •  Manufacturer’s name and address

   •  Product identification (model, type, serial number)

   •  List of relevant EU directives and standards the product complies with

   •  Reference to any conformity assessment procedures

   •  Signature of the responsible person

   •  Date of issue

4. Timing: The DoC must be drawn up before the product is placed on the EU market.

5. Availability: It should be kept with the technical documentation and made available to market surveillance authorities upon request.

6. Language: The DoC must be translated into the language(s) required by the EU member states where the product is sold.

7. Updates: If changes are made to the product or applicable standards, the DoC must be updated accordingly.

8. Retention: Manufacturers must keep the DoC for 10 years after the product’s last unit has been manufactured.

The DoC is a crucial part of the CE marking process, serving as the manufacturer’s formal declaration that their product meets all necessary EU requirements for sale in the European market.
