I’ll try and summarise a few things I have done since I last posted. I went to Road 2 Virginia in June. I took a class and made a Kawandi. I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I’ve been making my post cards each month. June Prompt: Under the Sea July Prompt: Wild Thing August Prompt: It’s Doggust September Prompt: Tolkien Time And October Prompt: Abracadabra I finished two quilts. I have many more tops to finish, but my longarm is having problems. The sideways encoder is only working intermittently and was driving me crazy. I was very happy to get these … Continue reading

It’s been a while since I posted since there was a Bank Holiday and another Monday my husband had the day off for his birthday. I finished up the quilt top using Vintage Soul by Cathe Holden. This was inspired by Jolee by GE Designs. I foundation paper pieced the square in a square block. It’s not a great success but it will be a finished quilt sometime. Someone on reddit was asking for inspiration for black and white quilts. On my quilt ladder there is one that I made a good decade ago. It was before I took photos … Continue reading

I spent a good amount of time finishing up the pen pouch that my husband asked for. I made the button by placing felt between two pieces of fabric. I used an awl to make the holes, then I used fabric stiffener. It gave me a button that works perfectly with the pouch. The rope was made from two half inch strips of fabric, there are a few tutorials on YouTube. I wish I had found this one, it looks like a better way than I did. At the moment it folds out flat, but if he wants I can … Continue reading

I haven’t really sewn at the machine for two weeks. The first week I had a number of appointments that disrupted my time, then last week I did a lot of hand stitching. I think I have written about making a pouch for Graham to put his good pens in. He saw the pouches I had made for myself and asked for something similar. The lines on the black will be where the folds will be. I reckon I’m slightly past half way now. It’s taking me longer than I thought it would. My original idea was to only sew … Continue reading

I am about half way on making the blocks for my Vintage Soul quilt. It is a square in a square that floats in a rectangle. I don’t think I have shown the commisioned piece that I am making. My husband has some nice pens that he would like a pouch to put them in. A discussion ensued and I dived into my William Morris scraps, the blue scraps have pretty much been used up so I pulled these browns and blacks. I will have to use quite a bit of interfacing to support the pens but I will worry … Continue reading

The week after my last post I got the two tops I was working on completed. Now I have 7 tops to quilt. It is really getting out of hand, but I am having too much fun piecing. The shaded 9 patch was started as a leader/ender project. Some of the half square triangles were sent to me by Bonnie – check out her blog HERE, I love to see what she has been up to. I mentioned last time that I was itching to start a new project. I bought a fat quarter bundle last year I think. It … Continue reading

I got all my string blocks sewn, I love how neat and tidy they are. Once they were finished I had to put the strings away. This: Became this: I was surprised at how little was left, I will have to add to them to be able to do a similar size project. A few weeks ago I saw a quilt that I liked by GE Designs called Jolee. Now I love their quilts and have done a few but Gudrun’s quilts usually have some squaring up to do so I did some digging and found out that this quilt … Continue reading

Summer 2023 the guild I belong to organised the first “retreat” after the pandemic. At times during 21/22 I met with a friend to sew. She was the only person I spent time with over those years. One time I had a container of scraps. I pressed them all and then cut some into bigger pieces and some into strips. One of the projects I thought of to do at retreat was to work with the strips, but in the end the space was so tight I only did handwork. Since I started enjoying sewing again this year I thought … Continue reading

Progress was made on my split 9 patch blocks. I now only have 30/140 left to sew. This is the pile from this week: I also finished up the slow stitching of a William Morris piece that had been around for a long time. More on that in a bit. It was the Mid Atlantic Quilt Show last week. I went on Thursday and Friday. I found the winning quilts to be amazing in their workmanship, but they didn’t really move me as pieces of art. This was Best in Show: It was made by Kestrel Michaud and was called … Continue reading

Last Monday was a holiday so I forgot to write a post. I got my quilt top from the previous week finished. I haven’t pressed it yet, and it’s been loosely folded since I finished it. The fabric was two layer cakes, Union Blues and Richmond Reds by Barbara Brackman. The idea for this quilt came from Pola Quilting on YouTube. I now have five quilt tops to quilt and finish. Ugh, I don’t think I have ever had more than one top waiting to quilt, except when I had two similar quilts that had the same back that I … Continue reading
