The Kavli Foundation and IAU: Advancing Global Scientific Cooperation

The IAU is pleased to announce The Kavli Foundation has agreed to fund $82,000 in continuation of their support of a Global Coordination Workshop in 2026 and the Young Astronomers Lunch at the IAU General Assembly in Rome from 10-19 August 2027.

Shaw Prize donation: investing in the future of science for the Asia Pacific region

The Shaw Prize announced a very generous sponsorship of HKD $1 million to help support the APRIM2026 conference (4-8 May 2026, Hong Kong) and fund astronomy research in the Asia-Pacific region.

John Richard Bond and George Efstathiou receive the 2025 Shaw Prize in Astronomy

The Shaw Prize in Astronomy 2025 is awarded in equal shares to John Richard Bond and George Efstathiou for their pioneering research in cosmology, in particular for their studies of fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background.
