The World's Deepest Marathon
The World’s Deepest Marathon documentary uses an extraordinary feat to make a larger point: modern mining, when done well, is built on innovation, rigorous standards, and a relentless focus on safety. It follows 55 runners as they complete a marathon 1,119 metres below sea level in Boliden's Garpenberg mine in Sweden – an achievement made possible by the systems, technologies, and practices that define responsible mining today.
Through behind the scenes access and reflections from participants, including ICMM’s own President and CEO, Rohitesh Dhawan, the documentary explores what it takes to plan and operate at depth. Co-organised by BecomingX, ICMM and Boliden, and sponsored by the World Gold Council, the film points to a wider implication: sustainable mining depends on continuous innovation and world-class safety standards that stand up to the most demanding conditions.
