IMO –
the International Maritime Organization – is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO's work supports the UN sustainable development goals.
Government officials and maritime experts from Asian coastal States* gathered in Singapore (2-6 February) for the first IMO workshop on ships’ routeing and ship reporting systems.
Caribbean policymakers and financiers have emphasized that decarbonization will not succeed through isolated projects or technologies alone, but through coordinated action across sectors and countries, supported by evidence-based planning and investment-ready pathways.
IMO’s Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction (SDC) has finalised a workplan to develop a safety regulatory framework for ships using new technologies and alternative fuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
