About the IGF

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is the United Nations Secretary-General–convened platform for inclusive, multistakeholder dialogue on Internet governance and related digital technologies. Established in 2006, the IGF has convened 20 global annual meetings hosted by governments and developed a strong intersessional ecosystem in close cooperation with more than 180 national, regional, and youth IGF initiatives, supported by targeted capacity-development activities. On 16 December 2025, the United Nations General Assembly confirmed the IGF as a permanent forum of the United Nations (Resolution 80/173).

IGF 2025 Opening

IGF 2026

The IGF 2026 process is underway, with preparations for the 21st annual IGF meeting and the 2026 intersessional work programme. The dates and venue of the meeting will be announced in the coming weeks. The Call for nominations to renew the IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG), which guides programme planning, is open until 26 February. The 2026 process builds on the outcomes of the first 20 IGF meetings, including the 20th IGF hosted by the Government of Norway in Lillestrøm in June 2025, and continues to advance inclusive, multistakeholder dialogue on Internet governance and digital policy issues.

the Internet

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) serves to bring people together from various stakeholder groups as equals, in discussions on public policy issues relating to the Internet. While there is no negotiated outcome, the IGF informs and inspires those with policy-making power in both the public and private sectors. At their annual meeting delegates discuss, exchange information and share good practices with each other. The IGF facilitates a common understanding of how to maximize Internet opportunities and address risks and challenges that arise.
