Hello Sunshine
(September 2025)
YA Graphic Novel (ages 14+)
Horror-themed coming-of-age mystery
Available now!
A boy named Noah comes home from bible camp to find that his secret boyfriend, Alex Lombardi, is missing after a severe mental breakdown. Noah finds himself teaming up with Alex’s angry twin brother, Jamie, the twins’ dog, Cass, their determined childhood friend and neighbor, Sky, and Izzy, who is Alex’s shy best friend (as well as Jamie’s girlfriend), in order to try to figure out what happened to Alex, and whether it has anything to do with his mother’s death five years before.
After strange things start happening in the Lombardis’ dilapidated house, Noah and his new friends start to think that maybe Alex didn’t just run away, and that Desdemona Lombardi’s mental illness may not have been all that it seemed.
Hello Sunshine is a horror story about severe mental illness, grief, and family; although it explores darkness, it also contains themes of love, hope, and humor.

Reviews
“This dense and immersive story positions horror and mental illness together with none of the all-too-common sensationalism or othering and with all of the necessary nuance. An honest and illuminating afterword ties up a searing and at times excruciatingly heartwrenching and deeply affecting story, drawn with nostalgia and care in a retro, muted color palette.” - Booklist Starred Review
“Beautiful, spooky, and emotional.” - Kirkus
"Debut creator Young interrogates the horror media trope of mental illness resulting in violence in this atmospheric and insightful supernatural graphic novel....Jagged, sharp artwork with a strange, surreal feel complements the creator’s nuanced depictions of horrifying paranormal mystery [and] supernatural suspense keeps readers on their toes while complex characterizations create fodder for nuanced and empathetic discussion surrounding mental health stigma and bullying.” - Publisher’s Weekly
“A dense, heartrending read…a bold accomplishment that provides an unflinching yet compassionate look at schizoaffective disorder, and how love can help those living with it.” - School Library Journal
