📢 EU Public Consultation on REDII - biofuels Until 26 January 2026, the European Commission is running a public consultation on the revision of appendices of the Renewable Energy Directive. ❗ If your company relies on biofuels, this will impact you. ❗ The revision focuses on reference values and calculation methodologies for greenhouse gas emission savings applicable to biofuels, bioliquids and biomass fuels. These annexes are central to determining whether fuels: ✔️ qualify as renewable energy sources and ✔️ are eligible for public support. 🔍 What’s changing? The proposal introduces several important updates that may significantly affect your emission reduction pathways, including: - New calculation formulas and updated default values - New production pathways - A defined fossil fuel comparator (g CO₂eq/MJ) for biomethane injected into the gas grid - Consideration of methane leakage - Integration of CO₂ capture and storage (CCS) 🤝 How CLIMACT can help: - Analysing the proposed changes and their impacts - Preparing for compliance - Navigating REDIII certification processes Now is the right time to assess how these revisions could affect your company and to engage in the consultation process. #RenewableEnergy #REDII #REDIII #Biofuels #Biomass #Biomethane #EURegulation #Sustainability #ClimatePolicy Frédérick Garot Olivier Squilbin Pascal Vermeulen Antoine Thill Estelle Nocent Camille van Derton Josse De Coen Maïté Mawet https://lnkd.in/e4mATkGd

The momentum behind credible corporate transition plans is now undeniable. Around the world, companies are recognising that science-based, ambitious and transparent transition plans are no longer a “nice to have” ; they are a strategic necessity for staying competitive and resilient in a carbon-constrained economy. This is why the European Commission’s publication of the first EU Climate Law–aligned, sector-specific Transition Pathways is such an important milestone. At CLIMACT, we are proud to have co-authored this work, contributing our expertise to help fill a long-recognised gap in the transition planning landscape. In particular, we helped produce 24 sectoral fiches and one cross-sectoral fiche, offering a level of granularity that was previously unavailable and providing companies and investors with a clearer, more actionable view of the road ahead. 🔍 What these pathways bring to the table: 🔹Clear guidance to set the right level of ambition and robust decarbonisation targets 🔹A structured view of the key levers needed to transform each sector  🔹Insights into the investment requirements of credible transition strategies  🔹A consistent reference for investors and stakeholders to assess transition plans This publication is the result of more than a year of constructive collaboration between the European Commission (DG Climate Action  - EU Environment and Climate) the Joint Research Centre, ICF, and our dedicated climact team, whose analytical and forward-looking work shaped the foundations of this report. 📘 Read the publication here and dive into the suite of sector fiches and data-driven tools that companies can start using today to strengthen their transition plans: https://lnkd.in/d_VfxA9f Jérôme KisielewiczCorentin Bonte, Vincent Matton, Michel Cornet, Julien PestiauxTilmann Morata Liebert, Marie Le Mouel, Nicolas Pickard-Garcia, Thomas GourdonVinati Chaudhari  #TransitionPlans #ClimateAction #Decarbonisation #NetZero #Sustainability #ClimateStrategy #ClimateLeadership #ESG #EUClimateLaw #EuropeanCommission #TransitionPathways #SustainableFinance

🎥 Climate, Business & Competitiveness This week, our CEO Jerome Meessen took part in Le Grand Dossier on the RTBF to react to a provocative question:  ❓ “Climate: Why does no one care?”  A debate shared with Minister Jean-Luc Crucke, MEP Saskia Bricmont, journalist Arnaud Ruyssen, and insights from Adélaïde Charlier (COP30 Brazil) and Théodore Tallent, animated by Julie Morelle. 🔹 Businesses don’t “ignore” climate — they act pragmatically  Most companies are moving forward, guided by economic resilience: - 480 companies asked the EU to maintain CSRD & CSDDD  -SBTi keeps growing — 96% report economic benefits CEOs increasingly link decarbonisation to: efficiency gains, access to green finance, supply chain resilience and innovation & new markets. Climate action is now a strategic driver of competitiveness.  But companies need: stable political signals. 🔹 Europe’s dependency is costly Europe still imports €1+ billion/day in fossil fuels (15% of its imports). At CLIMACT, we help organisations turn climate ambition into pragmatic, competitive strategies. 👉 Interested in strengthening your transition plan or assessing your decarbonisation levers? Let’s talk. #ClimateAction #Decarbonisation #NetZero #EnergyTransition #CSRD #CSDDD #ClimatePolicy #Competitiveness #SustainableFinance #ScienceBasedTargets #TransitionPlans #Climact

"Nothing can stop an idea whose time has come" And one thing is sure: the time for #sciencebased, #ambitious and #transparent corporate #transitionplans has definitely come. It has come not because policymakers in Brussels, California or Beijing think it is a nice to have, no, it has come because it helps and enable forward looking businesswomen and businessman understand how their organisations must transform to remain #competitive and #resilient in a carbon constrained world with increasing uncertainties and volatile energy prices. For these reasons, and no matter what happens in the European Parliament later today, the publication of #sectorspecific and #EUspecific Climate Law-aligned Transition Pathways by the European Commission is a real milestone! It fills a well documented gap in the transition plan landscape and will: 📉 Help companies define their level of ambition and decarbonisation #targets 📍 Help companies assess the role of decarbonisation #levers in their transformation 💶 Help companies understand the #investment needs associated the implementation of transition plans 📋 Help investors (and other stakeholders) #contextualise and assess the transition plans of their investees This is the result of more than one year of intensive and productive collaboration between EU Environment and Climate (Tilmann Morata Liebert & Marie Le Mouel), the #JRC (Nicolas Pickard-Garcia & Thomas Gourdon), ICF (Vinati Chaudhari) and of course the incredible prospective and data team here at CLIMACT (Michel Cornet, Corentin Bonte, Vincent Matton & Julien Pestiaux)! Have a dive in and please engage if you want to learn more about these: https://lnkd.in/d_VfxA9f 🌱 Next stop: integrated #climate and #nature transition plans! Let's do it. ©️ Visual by the Commission!

⚖️ CSRD & CSDDD - What if the parliament vote didn’t change anything? Today, the European Parliament is meeting to define its position on regulatory simplification for the CSRD and CSDDD as part of the Omnibus package. ❓ The question: Should the thresholds for applying the directives (company size and turnover) be raised and should overall reporting be simplified? Whatever the answers to these questions (and thus whatever the outcome of the vote), it will remain crucial for companies to position themselves regarding sustainability topics. And while sustainability may have been carried out as a compliance-driven exercise for many over the past couple of years, it is now becoming clear that integrating sustainability matters into the core strategy of the company is the smart move to boost innovation, enhance energy and materials security and resilience, and be seen as a leader on the market.  So if today, you and your company are impatiently waiting for the ball to drop, try instead to ask yourselves these questions: 🔹 Aside of CSRD, can sustainability actually have upsides for my company (energy efficiency, innovation, investors & market access, reputation)?   🔹Will my company be facing risks (transition and/or physical) because of climate change and policies, and should we prepare for it?  🔹Will my company be held accountable on sustainability topics because my suppliers and/or my customers still have to comply with CSRD, or because they are voluntarily engaged in a sustainability journey? If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, you may want to consider engaging or pursuing your climate and environment journey, as equipping yourself with a robust strategy will for sure prepare you for what is coming, CSRD or not… 📄 Read here our previous article on that topic: https://lnkd.in/d56vK4mG Gaétane Ronsmans Sacha Breyer Laurie Pazienza Pascal Vermeulen Jerome Meessen #CSRD #CSDDD #EURegulation #SustainabilityReporting #CorporateReporting #BeyondCompliance #Omnibus

How ready are Belgian banks for the climate transition?   At CLIMACT, we recently carried out a stocktake of the climate transition plans of Belgian banks for Service fédéral Changements climatiques (Belgique). This first-of-its-kind study offers a snapshot of how Belgian banks are preparing for and contributing to the transition to a low-carbon economy.  🔍 What did we find?  Our analysis, based on public disclosures and in-depth interviews with sustainability teams, shows that Belgian banks see the climate transition as an opportunity rather than a burden. They are increasingly positioning themselves as partners for their clients’ decarbonisation journeys, helping industries, SMEs and households invest in more sustainable, future-proof assets. However, while this ambition is encouraging, the level of concrete commitments remains uneven:  🔹 68% of banks have set some type of near-term climate target.  🔹 Only 38% have formally committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.  This limited target-setting is partly due to uncertainty in regional, Belgian and European climate ambition, which makes long-term planning difficult.  To unlock faster progress, clearer and more consistent policy frameworks are needed; from regional access to EPC data, to transparent sectoral pathways in the NECP, and a more practical SFDR framework for sustainable finance.  💡 Our takeaway:  Banks have a catalyst role to play in financing Belgium’s transition to a resilient, net-zero economy. With the right policy signals and collaboration, they can accelerate the shift and help clients decarbonise with confidence.  We’re proud to have supported SPF Environment in this important step toward understanding and strengthening the financial sector’s contribution to the climate transition.  We would like to acknowledge the valuable contribution of Jerome Meessen, Pieterjan Vaneerdewegh, Marine Swaab & Pierre-Yves Victor for their thorough analysis and commitment throughout the development of this report. 🔗 In the press : De Tijd : https://lnkd.in/epzpU5CT  Podcast 'De 7' De Tijd : https://lnkd.in/eJhJf2c5   L'Echo : https://lnkd.in/ec3wDgxw  Podcast "Le Brief" L'Echo: https://lnkd.in/eb9D9zpM  Le Soir: https://lnkd.in/e9VwbKZc #ClimateTransition #SustainableFinance #NetZero #Belgium #Climact #TransitionPlans #Sustainability #GreenFinance #Decarbonisation #COP30 #Banks
