  • Mining operations have long captured large amounts of information in various and often disconnected systems. If your data is fragmented and uncategorised it is difficult to analyse or interpret. Read the article below for insights on how to ready your operation for the future.

As part 3 of the articles that I have been posting, I feel this one touches on an area that few are currently talking about. When big data was first discussed, it wasn't focused on massive datasets. it was focused on the breadth of data available. This article is written to draw attention to the data that is not being captured. When the AI bot sits down at your planning table, you are going to want all the data collected. If you're at SME next week and want to chat more about this, come and see me at the Commit Works booth, otherwise I'm always up for a coffee, or beer.

  • AI is influencing conversations across mining and heavy industry. But there’s a risk we need to talk about. Data on its own isn’t intelligence. As Ian highlights in this article, the real value of AI comes from combining technology with deep operational experience. Without the context, judgement and practical knowledge of the people who understand the work, AI can scale noise just as easily as insight. If you’re thinking of applying AI in complex operational environments, please join the discussion…

Mining doesn't suffer from a lack of tech. The problem we see most often is fragmentation. Disconnected systems create execution gaps that drive variability and lead to inconsistent performance. The answer isn't more tech or expensive consultants. The real opportunity lies in closing the planning to execution gap. Real-time data capture, contextualised relationships, and integrated IT/OT systems will enable faster decisions, better reporting, and sustained operational excellence. This is the challenge CiteOps by Commit Works was built to address - connecting plans and frontline execution through an operational data foundation. From here, we can confidently progress towards AI-enabled execution models that will define the future of mining operations.

  • We are excited to be on the IdeaXchange Innovation Stage as part of SME MINEXCHANGE 2026. As mining operations become more complex, one challenge continues to limit performance: the gap between planning and execution. This session will explore what it really takes to prepare for AI-enabled execution models. Don't miss it! 👨 Ian Jones, Head of Product 📍 Stage 2 (Booth 2926) 🗓 Monday, 23 February 2026 ⏰ 11:45am - 12:00pm

  • AI in mining isn’t waiting on algorithms. It’s waiting on data. 🤯 See why Ian Jones thinks our ambitions are running ahead of our data foundations.

Our industry is expecting, and promising, great things from AI. The more I read and think about this, the more I am worried that we are moving forward more quickly than we are prepared for. I'd love to generate some discussion on this and I thought one way to do so was to put together my thoughts in a series of articles. So here is the first of 3 over the next few weeks. For those who want to chat more, I will be in Salt Lake City for SME in a couple of weeks and would love to catch up.

  • Siloed information. Decisions made without full context. Teams operating without a shared view of priorities or constraints. Over time, these conditions erode alignment, even when a well-designed system exists. This is not a people problem. It's a systems problem. Many operational systems are not built to support execution as conditions change. Top-tier mining operations address this head-on. They do three things consistently: 📶 Connect. People, plans, and constraints are visible across roles, shifts, and crews. 🔄 Collaborate. Decisions are made with shared context, not in isolation or after the fact. ℹ️ Control. Teams adapt in real time while maintaining discipline, accountability, and focus on what matters most. This thinking underpins how we build and implement CiteOps by Commit Works. Through digital tools and hands-on support, we help frontline teams and leaders stay aligned, respond to change, and sustain operational excellence.

  • Hear from Head of Product, Ian Jones at the #IdeaXchange #Innovation Stage as part of SME MINEXCHANGE 2026. 📍 Stage 2 (Booth 2926) 🗓 Monday, 23 February 2026 ⏰ 11:45am - 12:00pm As mining operations become more complex, one challenge continues to limit performance: the gap between #planning and #execution. This session will explore what it really takes to prepare for AI-enabled execution models. Before #AI can deliver value at the frontline, the foundations must be in place: 💽 consistent data collection 📊 standardized categorization 🔗 strong connection between systems and teams With a robust foundation, mining operations can improve activity #ConformanceToPlan, strengthen operational control, and support better real-time decision-making. Only then can AI be applied meaningfully to execution. If you’re attending #MINEXCHANGE2026 and interested in how technology can help translate plans into consistent execution, we welcome you to join the discussion.
