Welcome to the fire world, Canadian Prescribed Fire Training Program! Looking forward to continuing prescribed fire awareness across Canada!
The new $8M Canadian Prescribed Fire Training Program (CPFTP) is important because from an early age, we’re taught to fear fire—but for many of Canada’s ecosystems, fire is essential 🔥 Co-developed by the The University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus and the Weston Family Foundation, this first-of-its-kind national initiative will strengthen Canada’s national capacity for the safe, effective use of prescribed fire in support of biodiversity, ecological and community resilience. Over thousands of years, fire has played a critical role in maintaining biodiversity, ecological health, and resilience. However, decades of fire suppression and exclusion have pushed many landscapes out of balance. As vegetation builds up, it acts like kindling—fueling larger, more intense, and harder-to-control wildfires across the country. By training practitioners across Canada and building a national network of prescribed fire professionals, CPFTP supports: 🌲 Healthier ecosystems 🔥 Reduced wildfire risk 🏘️ Stronger, safer communities Learn more about how prescribed fire is helping restore balance to our landscapes: 🔗 www.rxfire.ca #PrescribedFire #WildfireResilience #EcologicalRestoration #FireEcology #CommunitySafety #LandscapeResilience #Canada
