Puccini’s tragic masterpiece of a loyal geisha and a callous American naval officer returns in Anthony Minghella’s acclaimed production, hailed “an inspiring vision” by The New York Times.

Written, composed, and starring international music icon Sting, The Last Ship comes to the Met for a limited run of performances. Inspired by Sting’s childhood in a shipbuilding community, and drawing on his own musical roots, the newly adapted musical features new and revised songs as well as a new book by Barney Norris.

Hailed as “completely exhilarating” (The New York Times) and “a modern masterpiece” (The Telegraph), Kaija Saariaho’s final opera has its highly anticipated Met premiere. Simon Stone’s powerful production features Joyce DiDonato and Finnish ethno-pop singer Vilma Jää as a grieving mother and the daughter she lost, with Susanna Mälkki on the podium.
