02/21/26 at 10am --Mayfly Life Cycle Fly Tying Class

02/21/26 at 10am REGISTER

Join us at Murray’s Fly Shop for an immersive Mayfly Life Cycle Fly Tying Class, where you'll learn to tie three essential patterns that mimic the complete life cycle of the mayfly—one of the most important insects in a trout’s diet.

In this hands-on class, you’ll master the art of tying the legendary Mr. Rapidan series, created by Harry Murray himself. You'll walk away with three highly effective flies, each designed to imitate a specific stage of the mayfly’s transformation:

  • Mr. Rapidan Bead Head Nymph – Representing the underwater stage, this weighted nymph gets down fast and triggers strikes from feeding trout.
  • Mr. Rapidan Emerger – Learn to tie this transitional pattern that imitates the mayfly as it rises to the surface, a favorite target for selective fish.
  • Mr. Rapidan Dry Fly – A classic Appalachian pattern that floats high and fools even the wariest trout during a hatch.

Whether you're a beginner looking to build your skills or an experienced tier aiming to refine your technique, this class will deepen your understanding of fly design, presentation, and hatch-matching strategy.

Why Take This Class?

  • Hands-on instruction from experienced fly tyers and guides who fish these patterns locally.
  • All tying materials provided during the class — just bring your favorite vise and tools
  • Small class size ensures individual attention and a relaxed learning environment.
  • Take home the three flies you tied — and the skills to tie many more.
