Within the particularly intimate and revealing setting of piano-accompanied aria and song recitals, Freddie de Tommaso will present Neapolitan songs, while Asmik Grigorian will perform works by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff in the Hungarian State Opera’s Stars' Recitals with Piano series. Of the two opera stars, the British-Italian tenor will be accompanied by Audrey Saint-Gil at his concert on 25 January 2026, while the Lithuanian soprano’s partner for her performance on 13 February will be the pianist Lukas Geniušas.
Verdi’s monumental opera Aida returns to the repertoire of the Hungarian State Opera, starring Eszter Sümegi and Csilla Boross in the title role. Adorján Pataki sings the role of Radamès at the Opera House for the first time, while principal conductor Martin Rajna also conducts the work for the first time. The large-scale production featuring a 110-member choir, a 70-piece orchestra with 20 onstage musicians, 50 extras, and two dozen ballet dancers is performed between 24 January and 3 February 2026, directed by János Mohácsi with choreography by Johanna Bodor.
The next event in the Medgyaszay Chamber Evenings series showcases the violin’s rich emotional world akin to the human singing voice, presented by opera répétiteur Balázs Kálvin and the guest artist of the series, violinist Anita Bujtás. At the Opera House concert on 15 January 15 2026, the famous aria from Norma as well as several songs by Balázs Kálvin can be heard performed on the violin, while virtuoso and deeply moving works by Massenet, Franck, Elgar, and Brahms also promise a memorable evening.
