Stunning revelations and deep connections: Celebration of life for Jane Ellen Stevens, founder of PACEs Connection

Jane Stevens’ life, and the celebration of her life, were similar in that both were filled with stunning revelations and deep connections. Cast as a love letter to the intrepid science journalist who founded PACEs Connection in 2012, the Valentine’s Day event’s highlights included a recounting of some of Jane’s most incredible adventures: A trip in a research submersible to the deepest point in the ocean, the Mariana Trench (more people have walked on the moon than have visited the depths of...

The Gaps We Keep Missing in Health Systems

Across three countries, three very different studies uncovered the same hidden flaw in modern care systems. The Netherlands. The United Kingdom. Canada. Each study looked at a different issue: end-of-life care for migrants, dementia services for underserved communities, and palliative care across language and cultural barriers. Different populations. Different methods. Yet the pattern was identical. In the Netherlands, researchers found that gender changes how ethnicity shapes care. But the...

They Tracked His Viral Load but Never Asked About His Childhood: A Story of Fragmented Care

Three systems. Three sets of data. Three versions of the same person. Daniel’s HIV care tracked every viral load. Mental health services logged anxiety scores. Housing support recorded tenancy details. But no one saw the whole person. Not because clinicians didn’t care, but because the system was never built to see people with intersecting identities. This is what I call "Intersectional invisibility" : when individuals at the margins, like the migrants, LGBTQ+ group, ethnic minorities,...

The $2 Trillion Blind Spot In Workforce Wellness: Why employee programs keep missing the root cause of performance loss [HR.com]

By Michael J. Menard March 2, 2026 , HR Magazine Highlights: Up to 70% of employees carry childhood adversity that directly impacts health, focus, and productivity—yet most organizations never measure it. Presenteeism is often trauma-driven survival coping, not disengagement—and it’s the largest untracked cost in workforce performance. Transform Your School from a Place of Stress to a Sanctuary of Safety and Growth

Every educator knows the feeling. You walk into the building, and the air is heavy. Maybe it's the aftermath of a student crisis, the simmering anxiety before high-stakes testing, or just the cumulative exhaustion of a staff trying to be everything to everyone. For too long, educational environments have operated under a cloud of stress. Behavioral challenges are rising, teacher burnout is at an all-time high, and students are struggling to connect. We often ask, "What is wrong with this...

Why Purpose-Built Spaces Matter for Mental Health Professionals

In New York City, the physical setting of a private practice often shapes more than logistics. It quietly influences how clinicians work, how clients feel when they arrive, and how sustainable a practice becomes over time. The search for a therapist office in Manhattan or surrounding boroughs usually starts with price and location, but it rarely ends there. Most providers eventually realize that not every commercial room works for therapy. There’s a difference between simply renting space...

Presentation for High School Students in an Alternative Program

I am doing a presentation on trauma to older high school students in an alternative program. Had thought about showing Paper Tigers with follow up conversation. I know there are other documentaries and perhaps even Ted Talks or YouTubes that would speak to their experiences. I am looking for suggestions. These students live in an urban setting that oftentimes reeks of toxic stress. Also, wold appreciate suggestions of icebreakers to use. The groups will be small, lending the conversation to...Read More...
