New EUROMAP & VDMA figures highlight Algeria’s fast-rising plastics & packaging industries

Boost local production and exports – Replace imports of consumables.

Algeria stands as a leading investor in plastics, packaging and recycling across Africa and the Middle East. These strategic imports drive local production diversification, enhance export capabilities, and reduce dependency on consumable imports.

• Algeria’s imports of plastics technology increased by 34.6% annually between 2020 and 2024, from €91m to €299m.

Voices from the organisers

“We are proud that since 2010 plast alger has been embraced by leading technology and raw material suppliers from around the globe as their most important business platform in the region”, says Martin März, fairtrade founder and managing partner.

“And we thank the Algerian government as well as Algerian, Maghreb, European, Middle Eastern and Asian embassies, institutions and associations for their unmitigated and ongoing support.”

"For plast & printpack alger, we are delighted to be welcoming world leaders in technology," says Petra Cullmann, Executive Director of Messe Duesseldorf.

"We are particularly pleased that our exhibitors are presenting innovations specifically adapted to the Algerian market."

Since a few years, Algeria heavily invests in the production of plastics raw materials to be able to gradually reduce such imports.

“When it comes to plastics technology” outlines Thomas Franken, Project Director K with Messe Duesseldorf, “Algeria's imports have increased by 34.6% per annum between 2020 and 2024, from €91 million to €299 million. This makes Algeria the leading importer of plastics technology on the African continent, ahead of Morocco (€230 million), South Africa (€205 million) and Egypt (€175 million). (VDMA). ”

And he adds: "Imports of plastic raw materials increased by 7.8% per year between 2007 and 2024, rising from 304 kt to 1,095 kt in 2024. Algeria is thus the third largest importer of plastics in primary form in Africa and the Middle East, behind the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. (EUROMAP)"
